Cont: Rioters storm and occupy the US Capitol - part 2

My impression of judges when I've been in courtrooms is that they don't respond well when told they don't have any authority over someone.

Yup.

If you want to get on the wrong side of the judge right out of the starting gate, just tell him/her that you don't recognise the authority of the court.

Tommorow, to try to distract attention from the first day of the House hearings on 1/6 some GOP congressmen are going to protest against that "cruel treatment" of the inprisoned insurrectionist.
Go cry me a river, guys.

Go cry me a river, guys.

Could that count as "giving aid and comfort to the enemy"?

The “Law & Order” party…

They are probably right, in the broadest strokes. The conditions of our prisons are a national embarrassment. Curious that they haven't cared until a bunch of brownshirts got locked up.

How dare we make them pay for their crimes?

But of course, a "crime" is a fact, and we live in a post-fact world where all that matters is affiliation.

Watching the officers give their testimony, this is painful.

Meanwhile the house GOP chair is saying Pelosi was to blame for 1/6

WTAF? Based on what otherworldly chain of reasoning?
Based on the argument that congress is responsible for controlling the capital police, and she should have had them better prepared for the terrorist activity.

Which is all bunk.

While congress does have some high-level control over the capitol police (e.g. funding levels), they don't control the day-to-day operations.

There were also some allegations that Pelosi resisted calling in the national guard, which is not only a lie, but ignores the fact that at the time, Moscow Mitch was the senate leader, and he had just as much authority to call in the national guard as Pelosi.

Officer Harry Dunn telling folks that the Trump Terrorists were complete racists to boot. No surprise, really.

I think I'd prefer Pelosi had accepted McCarthy's recommendations. Let themselves make fools of themselves on national TV.

They can still be fools wherever they find themselves, but it'd be nice to have an investigation without the distraction of the GOP clown car doing donuts center stage.

The last time they let these clowns on they just loudly sang praises and hymns to Trump. No point having them there.

Good news for a change. The pro insurrectionist rally turned into comedy gold when a few counter protestors made the two leads, Marjorie Taylor Green and Matt Gaetz run away like the forces of hell were in pursuit FUnniest thing in a long time.
Protestors were not even threating them..just chanting and displaying signs . Truly pathetic on the part of the GOP.

Isn't think another prime example of the dreaded Cancel Culture?

A little good news...

From: The Hill
The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday declined to back a Republican lawmaker's legal defense against a lawsuit accusing him of helping to foment the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
...
DOJ lawyers said in a court filing that they were declining to certify Rep. Mo Brooks's (R-Ala.) claim that he was acting within the scope of his official duties as a member of Congress when he delivered a speech to Trump supporters...Had the DOJ agreed with Brooks and convinced a court that he was acting within his official duties, the Alabama Republican would have effectively been immune from the lawsuit.

There will be a lot more legal wrangling (and its likely the courts will simply rule it "free speech"), but at least he won't have the DOJ running interference for him. It also means that there is a better chance that Stubby McBonespurs also won't get the same sort of DOJ protection in any lawsuits against him.
