Cont: Rioters storm and occupy the US Capitol - part 2

It also would have raised instant attention to a man out on bail. The older military rifles still use common survivalist ammo, and can be bought on the collector market discreetly. Some without any paperwork at all.
A box of AK47 rifles not as quietly.

I don't blame him for getting nice O/U shotguns either, some are just art in the finish.

That doesn't really pass the sniff test because AR-15's are no more or less illegal for this guy to possess than vintage rifles. Seeing as he bought these rifles in the ordinary way, through an FFL, there doesn't really seem to be much of an effort to evade detection.

If he were trying to stockpile weapons secretly, he would have been better off buying weapons in private sales or off the blackmarket.

Two more cops arrested for participation in Jan6 attack, out of Florida.

A Windermere Police Department officer resigned and was arrested Thursday on charges that he participated in the January riot at the U.S. Capitol — the first member of Central Florida law enforcement to face charges in the attempted insurrection.

After federal prosecutors announced the arrests of Officer Kevin A. Tuck and his son Nathaniel A. Tuck, a former Apopka police officer, they both appeared before a judge at the federal courthouse in downtown Orlando.

In court, prosecutors accused Kevin Tuck, 51, and Nathaniel Tuck, 29, of five charges, including obstructing an official proceeding, aiding and abetting, entering restricted grounds, disorderly conduct inside the Capitol building, and parading or picketing inside an official building.

And today's award for dumbest January 6th terrorist goes to... Brandon Fallows...

From: Raw Story
Brandon Fellows, a former grocery store worker from Schenectady, New York, was ordered back to jail while awaiting trial after a federal judge ruled he had violated the terms of his pretrial release by calling his probation officer's mother....Prosecutors said the 27-year-old Donald Trump supporter skipped a court-ordered mental health evaluation...

Also, from the same article:

"I have no regrets," Fellows said shortly after the riot. "I do regret potentially smoking what may have been weed," he said in February. "I think that discredits me and makes me look stupid to a lot of people".

Yes, because when someone engages in terrorist activity in order to override the constitution and have an inept con-artist installed as leader, and then both claims they have no regrets (which kind of removes the chance of leniency) and violate bail conditions, smoking marijuana is going to be the thing that makes you look stupid.

I know it likely violated his probation because of the federal laws on pot, but it is legal in New York. Next to the insurrection and skipping the mental health evaluation, the pot doesn't even rank.

And the award for terrorist deserving the least amount of sympathy goes to... Joseph Biggs...

From: Raw Story
...a key high-ranking member of the Proud Boys being held in a jail in Seminole County, Florida is alleging to have been "threatened" by other inmates in the facility while awaiting trial for his involvement in planning the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

On one hand, people in prison shouldn't be subject to unwarranted abuse, from either the justice system or fellow inmates. But being a member of a group who executed a terrorist act on Jan6 doesn't leave much room for sympathy.

The pot had nothing to do with either his initial arrest, nor with the judge cancelling his bail. (That was largely due to him making an obscene phone call to the mother of his prosecutor.)

He was the one that brought up smoking pot, but only as a "it makes me look stupid" argument.

“Potentially smoking what might have been pot”…..

Erm….

There is a poster here who thinks empathy is overrated, so I will agree.... :D

On behalf of marijuana, it wasn't the weed that made you stupid, bro.

"I'm sorry for jaywalking on my way to the bank robbery. In retrospect, that was a bad decision."

Eyes on the courts today as first felony plea related to the attack is being sentenced.

Paul Hodgkins plead guilty to felony obstruction, among other things. Unlike previous guilty pleas, he was documented entering deeper into the building, though he was not armed nor is not alleged to have attacked any police or others.

His sentencing may set the standard the many other CHUDs likewise facing a felony obstruction charge.

Prosecutors asking for 18 months.

He wasn't armed, but didn't he have rope and other items that indicate he planned on restraining any Reps or Senators he came across?

Disappointing. Less than half of what prosecutors were looking for.

And yes, he was 'non-violent', and cooperative, etc., but to me, that's already been factored in, by the fact that prosecutors were looking for only 18 months on one charge, rather than continuing with all the other charges he was facing (which would have resulted in years of prison.)

Remember, one of the earlier defendants who has been sentenced initially expressed remorse, but then returned to the "justified" rhetoric.

I would guess that we're seeing the most lenient sentences up front. Those with uncomplicated cases that cooperated and plead out quickly are first down the hopper.

I wouldn't discount the severity of being a convicted felon in our absurdly punitive society. This conviction is going to haunt this guy for a long, long time.
