Does anything exist?

Yes salt as a combination of sodium and Chlorine is an explanation for a set of observations but not for other observations.

What?

Dude are you steering harder into the gibberish?

What observations? And I swear to God if you say "qualia" or anything like it I'll make your brain in a vat eat the Ship of Theseus inside Plato's Cave.

It tells you what the nature of common table salt is. Something you claimed science couldn’t do.

What is the philosophical answer to “Does anything exist?”

"Philosophy. Not answering questions science can't answer and acting pompous about it since 469 BC."

We've now had like 4 or 5 philosophy defenders run into the thread, head held high, sure and confident in the ability to win the discourse with nothing but a trite "Philosophy answers questions that science can't!" who then fade back into the shadows when asked to either present something philosophy has answered that science could not or to describe how exactly philosophy could answer something.

So... like the next person just waiting in the wings to make that exact same argument how about you just... like don't.

increasingly satisfying scientific explanations are forthcoming all the time, even re the humble table salt.

Like I said, bad question.

No you're freebasing it.

If by me suggesting that science is to explain and predict observations, and if by suggesting that science may not net a singular explanation about anything - Yes, if this is doing philosophy, then I'm guilty as hell.

Is blatant dishonesty part of philosophy? Do you ever plan on answering (clearly, like a human not a philosophizer) the question that I, Darat, and others have asked you a dozen times?

If you mean this question: “Does anything exist?”

answer is Yes, and it did not require science or philosophy, I broke down and called my Mom. She says 'Hi'

Okay.

Give me a question science can't answer, and explain with an actual process how philosophy would do it.

I'd ask for an example of a question philosophy has answered, but I know won't get an answer.

And also, don't answer with something that isn't philosophy. Personal tastes and values don't count.

Sorry but your use of language is not clear ... are you saying that science may not be able to explain anything? I mean, that's what you have just claimed.

Science has explained a billion different things. You may not like the explanations. You may think that they are not actually true. But the explanations are all there, and that's undeniable (except perhaps by anyone who was, unfortunately, mentally ill).

If you think the explanations are wrong, then can you point to where anyone has shown that in the real published research literature? Or better still, since it's your claim - show us the paper that you wrote and which is published in the science journals where you show that science "may not provide a single explanation" ... where is that, where is your paper?

I think philosophy is regarded as personal, and often includes personal values and qualities. I can hire someone to do some science, but philosophy I would have to do myself, for myself, even if I begin with a philosophical foundation formulated by someone else.
Putting that aside . . .
And, there are some questions science can, in principle, provide explanations, but hey I'm 67 and in the abscence of time I just might have to settle for some philosophy. I don't have time to wait till science can plant a chip in my brain stem to interpret/direct my behavior - so I may have to select an ethics philosophy.
BTW, one thing I learned from Jesus, if having a party serve the good wine first. Works like a charm.

We should not expect science would net a singular explanation for any one ‘thing’

I am not suggesting any one scientific explanation is wrong, I’m saying it’s bad science to suggest any one scientific explanation is correct

...In what way exactly? I mean obviously you have the standard privisos of all knowledge being only what is best known at the time with the possibility that our understanding will change with new information, but you can absolutely state that one explanation is correct. To pick a random example, the panoply of life is due to the systems detailed in the theory of Evolution. It just is, that's the absolute truth of the matter.
