The Biden Presidency

Gawd I hate Biden's speeches.

He's giving a speech on the Floyd case, it's on in the other room so I'm not listening to the words. I just can't stand his whiny over-dramatic attempt at emotion.

It's not that I don't think he's sincere, he probably is. There's just something creepy/annoying about his speeches that grates on me like fingernails on a blackboard.

I feel the same way. He sounds like an exhausted elementary school principal begging the unruly children to please behave.

My guess if Drrumpf was still POTUS h would have objected to the guilty verdict. He probably would have tweeted the need to side with the police through the entire trial.

I'm sure that dumb **** would have threatened the use of the Insurrection Act, called out the Proud Boys, the Oath Keeper and every other species of Trumptrash to make sure there were riots.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden is putting the US back in the game regarding the climate change emergency.

The US has pledged to cut carbon emissions by 50-52% below 2005 levels by the end of this decade.

This new target, which will be unveiled at a virtual summit of 40 global leaders, essentially doubles their previous promise.

It's a shame about the missed opportunities over the last 4 years, but it's good to see that the US is back on board.

That's one area where his non-progressiveness could actually help. The left tends to shoot itself in the foot on the energy issue by treating nuclear power as the work of the Devil, but in reality we're never getting anywhere near that kind of goal without building more nuclear plants. We need somebody to start seriously pushing for both the left's general goal and a specific part of how to reach it which much of the left religiously despises.

I'm rather bored with Biden speeches. But we Democrats are not into this near religious admiration of leaders. It's a job.

Leave it to the simple folks to go to leader rallies. "He speaks how I feel?" You mean he threw out some dog whistle phrases. Sure, lady.

No. The POTUS can't usurp Congresses' role in tax laws.

As to Amazon having a no sales tax advantage, that's BS given they have a huge cost in comparison with shipping charges.

Amazon beat out competitors by operating at a loss for a while.

That and Amazon has been charging sales tax for years. Like they have to if they have any business locations in that state.

Can't. Gotta pander to the hippie base.

I don't think this is true anymore. There are many environmentalists who now support nuclear power as an effective method to de-carbonize. I use to be anti-nuclear. Not any more.

I do believe it should be approached differently. Seriously consider building molten salt reactors as well as building smaller modular reactors in factories that are assembled at their locations.

The newest nuclear plant designs purportedly have overcome the dangers and shortcomings of the traditional versions.

Any movement away from pressurized water in the first thermal loop is a step in the right direction. There are dozens of companies looking to get generation IV nuclear reactors built for commercial energy production. Terra power is just one. IMSR, Thorcon, Flibe are just a few others.

GOPers attacking Biden because of his recognition of the Armenian Genocide. New low.

I find that hard to believe... the new low part, not the attack part. I think that it only feels like a new low because it's fresh. The pretty much unending stream of brazen evil coming from the GOP has left me more than a little distrustful of new low claims, though. Of course, when the GOP has repeatedly and actively worked to harm (and sometimes kill!) children in a myriad of ways, take away health care, subvert (and frequently effectively destroy) both the Constitution and nearly every part of government, and so much more... the very concept of "new low" becomes effectively meaningless.
