The Biden Presidency

At the risk of repeating what I have said previously, I have had the misfortune to spend several years of my life living with a narcissistic partner.

She was anything but stupid, rather, she was scheming, conniving and cunning, and above average intelligence. She learned very quickly which buttons to push and knew exactly when to push them. She was very manipulative, and knew how to get other people to do her bidding. She was also very adept at determining when others were past their use-by date (no longer useful to her), and dispensed with them quickly. Her entire persona was geared to make her the centre of all things, detecting very quickly anyone who caught on to what she was doing.

Wow! How very unfortunate for you because she sounds like a female version of Donald Trump.

“Stupid is as stupid does.”

I think Trump is stupid.

There are just too many examples of him saying stupid things.

My favorite is when he was shown a nighttime aerial photo of North and South Korea and asked if the darkness extended south from South Korea was the ocean. It’s a famous photo used to demonstrate the difference between democracy and authoritarianism. Also high on the list is him saying he met with the President of the Virgin Islands, when he is in fact the President of the Virgin Islands. One could go on with many pages of such examples.

I don’t find it credible that he can know these things and feign ignorance of them. That said, I would love to see his performance on an IQ test. All we have is his grades in school, which have remained purposefully hidden from view.

I know everyone has different outlooks on what "stupid" is, but there really isn't a world where Trump would fall into it. He might not be smart in the ways he claims or thinks, but he is not a stupid man.

Sure he is. He doesn't read, doesn't understand any topic he discusses, can't be bothered to do any research or listen to knowledgable people, struggles with language, decendy and even basic concepts, and speaks like a ten year-old, at best.

How is that not stupid?

I've said it before "Is Trump stupid?" is a bad place to get hung up on because it doesn't matter and it's sort of a bad question in the way it is being presented.

No Trump doesn't have some actual thought out, Machivalian plan. He is operating on the level of a toddler who has thrown himself on the floor of the Walmart kicking and screaming because Mommy won't buy him the new TurboMan action figure.

But not having a plan isn't the same thing as operating without purpose. Trump has in the 70 sad years of his life certainly developed a subconscious awareness of what he's doing.

He's a toddler throwing a tantrum and that's as far as his higher brain is going, but his raw lower brain knows on some level which types of tantrums, thrown where, when, and at who, are most effective.

Trump doesn't have a plan, but he does have something vaguely equivalent to a survivor's instinct.

Evil idiots who nonetheless have, almost against their will, developed a set of skills are sadly an all too common thing.

I think he's become functionally stupid in the last few decades.

I agree with Stacyhs' assessment of him having long-standing learning disabilities, combined with his innate lack of being an intellectually curious man. If you listen to tapes of him back in the 80s and 90s, he comes across as a reasonable enough person, if not a towering intellectual giant. But after decades of just not bothering to learn anything for himself, and a combination of firing anyone who tells him what he doesn't want to hear and stealing ideas from others that he decides he likes, he's essentially lost any ability to actually think anything through for himself.

Rational thinking is a skill like any other, and if you don't use a skill, you lose it. Sometimes irretrievably. Trump's life of unearned privilege and praise, where all his "successes" are actually built on the work of others, and he's never been held to account for his own failures, has made him functionally stupid.

Biden admin operative cites "dignity & respect" as excuse to block the American people from seeing migrants warehoused in Donna, TX.

Video shows border concentration camp cell jammed wall to wall with imprisoned people laying on the ground under mylar blankets. Ghoul in charge of the tour attempts to block the video from being recorded by citing the imprisoned people's "dignity".

"Ghoul" is a little harsh. Who's taking the video, and for what purpose? Is that a network news reporter, or somebody working for Ted Cruz? How do the people inside feel about being filmed? Are they underage? The officials responsible for their care really do have an obligation to protect their privacy in the facility.

Most of that is ignorance, as opposed to intelligence. And he's INTENTIONALLY ignorant, which I suppose is pretty stupid.

Anyone choosing to facilitate this human rights abuse is a ghoul. Anyone with a conscience would have resigned from these facilities by now.

They are housed and protected temporarily, ideally for a few days, until other arrangements are made. What do you see as the alternative? Shipping them back across the border immediately? Even unaccompanied children? Turning them loose to do whatever they can -- again, even unaccompanied children? Trump was hurting people deliberately to scare them away. Biden is trying to be humane, and now is paying a price for it.

It's also one of those things that was pretty easily predictable from the start, given the backlog and general starting point. IIRC, detention space was quite full when it was handed off to Biden, for example, because the Trump Administration had pretty intentionally been making it quite full for the large majority of the Trump Administration. It takes time to go through the numerous backlogs and it was pretty certain to be really crappy while it is happening.

Not to mention Trump has one canned speech. He repeats it over and over, sometimes all of it, sometimes part of it. And he has a repeating schtick that he uses over and over and over and over.

People with dementia do that. Classic sign.

My grandmother would sometimes interrupt herself when she was telling a story to tell a story she just reminded herself of which was the same story she just interrupted. It was, what's the word...

SAD!

(apologies grandma :boxedin: )

Related to that is the fact that Trump actively impeded the transition. Incoming Biden people didn't get the whole picture about immigration, vaccines and other stuff until after Jan. 20.

No both the Progressives and Trumpers (but I repeat myself) agree that Biden should have been able to instantly solve this problem with a snap of his fingers because that's how reality works.

Well, that's how Reality TV works. Is there a difference?
