Would it in any way alter the current relationship between Russia and the USA in any way that detailed diplomatic negotiations could not? How, exactly, would Putin benefit?

If it did take place, and Biden made even one good point, Putin knows he would look like an idiot being bested by a "demented" person. Putin and Biden could never "debate" anyway in any format you could call a debate. Putin won't speak English, and Biden doesn't speak Russian. So trying to have a battle of rhetoric for points via translators, or even just trying to trade one-line insults, would be Trumpianly stupid.
