Cont: [ED] Discussion: Trans Women are not Women (Part 5)

It might be simpler to have one league for all those who've never taken exogenous testosterone or gone through male puberty, and another league that is open to all comers so long as they aren't currently using performance enhancing drugs (e.g. NHL).

There are some sports leagues that do something similar. They have an open category for anyone (no drugs, including testosterone), then restricted leagues based on certain criteria. That includes females (not "women"), older athletes ("masters") or younger athletes ("junior"). Anyone can enter the open, you can only enter restricted if you meet the criteria.

They'll be gutted they can't apply for the death penalty for his heresy.

We should bring back burning at the stake straight away.

It amuses me to see the fervent trans-allies come on here and say they're just sort of trolling around watching the dinosaurs being hit by the asteroid and the New Dawn of our trans overlords approaching, when any fule can see that this ridiculous tide is gradually turning and it's going the way of frontal lobotomies and recovered memories eventually. (Not to mention tulip bulbs.)

And ritual satanic abuse.

You can brainwash some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but this nonsense requires the entire planet to accept a manifest absurdity and that isn't going to happen in the long term.

It's quite impressive how far they've got and it might take quite a while to row it back properly, but the writing is on the wall.

Recent events in the English courts are looking like the little cloud on the water, like a man's hand. If I may mix biblical metaphors. Puberty blockers have been banned for younger teenagers, and a recently-retired psychiatrist is currently singing like a canary about the harm that's being done to children by gender ideology.

It could be, if they genuinely identify as transabled but haven't undergone surgery. The deconstructionists are on it already, and I wouldn't underestimate them.

By combining critical discourse analysis, genealogy, and deconstruction, I examine these negative discourses to encourage alliances between anti-ableist activists and transabled people.

I feel like I'm stuck in a the Twilight Zone. This is just so surreal.

The US seems dominated by "bathroom wars" (a simple question which invites an all or nothing approach), while the UK sees more discussion of wider issues such as womens' shelters and sports.

This is a frustrating view. This is what gets shown, and it's where the discussion gets dragged to. But that's not the focus from those who oppose the revision of "sex" to mean "self-claimed gender identity". I don't know how many times I've reiterated this.

But inevitably, the activists will steer the discussion to bathrooms and pretend that's the only impact. All while getting laws re-written to allow transwomen to count as women for AA purposes and for representation in politics, and while passing bills that place self-identified transwomen in female prison wards regardless of whether they've transitioned in any meaningful way at all.

When rights and protections based on sex (a real and objectively identifiable characteristic) get replaced with self-identified gender identity (a completely subjective and personal belief) in the scope of law, it very effectively places females at risk both physically and politically.

 Tulip bulbs?

PS: loving seeing the term "woke" weaponised so casually (and without justification) in a "skeptics'" forum! Carry on :D

FWIW I personally (as I've written before in these threads) have significant reservations about the approach to under-18s who have professed gender dysphoria and transidentity issues. And that especially applies to medical or surgical interventions - not only because in some cases they may be difficult to reverse, but also because they impart an additional psychological burden onto the young person, if they feel they want to "detransition" at a later date.

I also think that psychiatrists and physicians assessing/treating this age group ought to be exercising extreme care, to try to establish whether any given patient can unequivocally be shown to be exhibiting gender dysphoria and an associated desire to transition - given that many 12-18-year-olds can undergo severe identity & self-esteem issues, and that some such people may view transitioning as a means to address those issues, rather than the other way round.

Having said that, I believe that places such as the Tavistock Clinic are providing exemplary help to many (even most) of the young people who request their services. However, at the same time, I don't doubt that a small number of their clients have probably been taken down a clinical pathway that - in the longer term - did not best serve their needs, and might in fact have been detrimental to them.

It's all about balance and safeguards, in my opinion. And it's a very long way from the cut-and-dry matter that many seem to believe. Hypothetically (and probably not hypothetically, actually), what should a clinic such as the Tavistock tell the parents of a 15-year-old who was told that he/she would not be allowed to start any transition-related medication or therapy, who then killed himself/herself. Conversely, what should the clinic tell a 22-year-old who comes back to them accusing them of having "mis-sold" him/her transitioning medication and therapy when he/she was 15?

It is? You'll have to point out that wall to me.

(And, btw, the tightening up of safeguarding in the area of under-18s - which I entirely agree with, if done properly and proportionately - is entirely different from the overarching issue of transidentity, the recognition of transgender rights, and the protection of transgender people from any form of discrimination.)

Reason will prevail, like in Idaho where Republicans can require insufficiently feminine girls to have their genitals examined.

One of the more controversial aspects of the bill is that if a high school or college student athlete is believed to be trans and competing on a women’s team, the school would be permitted to perform a physical examination of their genitals to verify their gender, as well as blood and chromosomal testing, according to Boise State Public Radio.

Forcing girls to submit to genital examinations, anything to keep them safe!
