The Biden Presidency

Of course he doesn't.

Not really

true

Bingo

I'll remind you all again:
Cruz was a national debate champion in college. Therefore, he is very effectively able to argue any position he chooses to argue, regardless of whether he believes it.
Nothing Cruz says has anything to do with what he "thinks," it's all about rhetoric.

So, an experienced liar then. Why not just say so.

My presumption is that the people carrying sightless rifles do so mainly to display their machismo, but also that, if they do start shooting, they do not care what or whom they hit. We are talking, after all, about people who do not care very much about anyone but themselves, and do not think about much of anything.

You really think there are no current ways for Canadian oil to go from Canada to the US without this pipeline? Bless your heart.

Yes, perhaps you missed it in the first post but I'll say it exactly the same again to be clear, there are no other ways that Canadian oil sands can be moved to US refineries that are economically feasible other than by pipeline.

BTW, judging by your use of the phrase "Bless your heart" it is clear you have no understanding of its application whatsoever and are relying on what others have told you it means. Unfortunate and telling but understandable.

It may stay that way after Biden cancelled the Keystone pipeline...I never considered Biden would start a trade war with Alberta/Canada but here we go!
Heck of a first day in office.

Hey Canada, miss Trump yet? :D

From Alberta, NOT EVEN A LITTLE. Our provincial premier is a little Trump wannabe and the sooner we get rid of him the better.

If Biden wants Congress to work with him, he should work with Congress instead of signing 15 executive orders and 2 executive actions to circumvent us.

I just read that the detainment centers are all closed now. And right-wingers are screaming that one of the executive orders already has millions of illegal aliens crossing the border.

Do you have a source for that? Not that I don't believe you, but I am having trouble finding anything that reports on the issue in any detail. Lots of very vague statements about immigration reform.

Of course they aren't economically feasible. Canadian oil sands are not economically feasible. Neither is fracking. That's what happens when oil prices are this low.

Also, there are other pipelines. You know this, I'm sure.

Just to be clear though: it is currently physically and legally possible for oil from Canadian sands to enter the US.

I'm sure it is clear to you. Thoughts and prayers.

That's great news. How will this decision affect Alberta's economy due to the pending unemployment of Keystone workers? Not much?

Sure, I understand that. But take the Afghanistan war example. Sure, no pullout on day 1. But after 8 years, you kinda have to admit that Obama isn't anti-Afghanistan war. After a certain point, it was his baby. Where exactly that is is hard to say. The same is true for Biden, both on the endless Afghanistan war and for the situation at the border.

Your point is taken nonetheless. How long before "give him some time" is no longer a reasonable excuse?

I would also quibble that the first few days, weeks, months of the new Administration are often seen as the most ripe for big actions. Realistically, there are only 2 years before the next election that might take away the ability of the Democrats to do anything. Anything controversial should be done sooner rather than later, in order to not needlessly injure congressional election chances.

If something is going to be done about our massive, intractable immigration problem, now is the chance, not later.

After giving it some thought, I'd say two years is not a bad demarcation.

Biden has congress for two years, after which he may not (and likely won't). If he doesn't prioritize substantial change before then, it would be safe to conclude he doesn't really care much. And there's room for some serious doubts long before that.

But given the pandemic, the fragile state of the economy and the messes that Trump has left all over the executive branch, I would not be overly surprised if some important things take months or up to a year to show progress visible to the public. I will have some misgivings if there isn't at least an announcement of the beginning of the process of efforts to reunite children and close down detention facilities within the first two months.

You never know, oil may become so overpriced it may again become economically sound to truck in oil sands for oil recovery and refining.
But I hope not.

Yes, it is. As a KY hillbilly I can attest you were misusing part of my culture as a direct attempt at a dig. If you're going to float a dig, at least do me the courtesy of doing it right next time.

That seems fair.

Another indicator to consider is whether any effort is made to investigate and punish those responsible for abuse at these facilities. For example, the mass sterilization of imprisoned women without informed consent.

High profile investigations into systematic abuse would be a good indicator that this is something that Biden is serious about.

That’s good. There quite a mess to sort out there.

Senator Ted Cruz tweeted

@SenTedCruz
By rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, President Biden indicates he’s more interested in the views of the citizens of Paris than in the jobs of the citizens of Pittsburgh. This agreement will do little to affect the climate and will harm the livelihoods of Americans.

I have had zero respect for Cruz's opinion about almost every topic. After Jan. 6th, I have even less respect in anything that comes out of his oral cavity.

Not seeing anything to indicate that Biden intends to close concentration camps at the Southern borders now. I guess we're going back to kids in cages being ok now that it's a Democrat in charge.

Then you didn't look, maybe driven by your desire to rag on Biden from day one. A cursory review of the news shows immigration action aplenty, including on the camps. At least now you're free to bitch about something else.

The article you linked is from before Biden was in office. I don't see how this clarifies anything, and hardly puts me in my place.

From the Independent

Josh Marcus
Florida residents camped out outside gun stores as the Biden administration took office, fearing that the new president would lead a crackdown on firearms.

"I think we all believe Biden is going to take it away from us too," David Godkin, who was lined up outside of Academy Sports + Outdoors in Lake Mary, Florida, on Monday, told Fox 35 Orlando. Customers also mentioned having a hard time finding guns and ammo around the area.

The owners of Academy said people had been lining up as early as 2am outside the shop, which opens at 9am, to buy guns, echoing reports from Volusia Top Gun, another local gun shop with long lines in recent days.

"When Trump had mentioned a peaceful transfer of power, whatever exactly it was he said, seems like it’s been even more crazy than the crazy it was," own Ron Perkinson told Fox 35.

His sales have been up 100 per cent since the pandemic, and up another 100 per cent in the last two weeks.

Ahh, guns. Comfort food for gun-nuts!

Well actually, Lauren, just perhaps he's not particularly keen to work with YOU.
