It's also how compromises get made. A member of congress might vote for a bill that they wouldn't otherwise vote for if they can get their own little pet project attached to it.

In Congress that is called "Log Rolling". Happens all the time.

#DiaperDon's standard of "absolute proof" and an elementary standard of legal knowledge, never mind the SCOTUS standard, would appear to inhabit different universes.

You think even if he is not a lawyer, somone who ,throughout his career has filed so many lawsuits, would have some idea of how the law operates, but Trump does not.

Pretty good article in Florida's Palm Beach Post newspaper. Noteworthy because it's trump's 'hometown newspaper' and trump spent the Christmas holiday there. They slam him over and over by just presenting an accurate accounting. The meeting he attended Thursday where "everyone was asking" why the Republicans aren't up in arms and fighting over the rigged presidential election, a meeting for which there is no record. Where it was held, who 'everyone' was. How at a time when millions of unemployed Americans are about to lose federal jobless aid, trump is still obsessing about the election. They note that one of trump's biggest irritants are local races in which the Republican candidates did well, won their races, but trump lost. And that the targets of "his ire" are increasingly other Republicans. I liked this one:
More than 100 devoted followers of the president lined the motorcade route along Southern Boulevard on Wednesday evening. The motorcade slowed while passing the crowd and the president waved through the window. Those dotting the road, like the president, were in no mood to acknowledge the election defeat. Stan Brown, refusing to concede that the holiday visit could be Trump's last as president [said]: "If he's not given a second term, I am going to fly my flag upside down for the next four years." Palm Beach Post story
Smart move, Stan, that'll show 'em! :boggled:

Lastly, the Post published a photo of trump and melania arriving at Palm Beach International Airport on Wednesday on Air Force One. trump looks depressed and bitter, but also older and weird. Maybe it's the photo but he looks like a different man.

I don't remember seeing this here -- it probably was -- but when trump finally emerged for a post-election press conference he was ridiculed for choosing to appear at a tiny desk.
While many Americans celebrated Thanksgiving away from their loved ones in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, President Donald Trump held a vicious press conference from behind a very tiny desk...“May this be how we remember the Trump presidency: a baby at his tiny little desk throwing a tantrum,” one Twitter user wrote. story from Glamour dot com

The reason I thought of it was George Takei (Sulu on Star Trek) just reposted a Twitter video ridiculing trump over it. Here's the link: Twitter roasts trump over desk

trump reportedly became aware of the ridicule and was not pleased. De Niro was right: trump is basically a whackjob.

Yeah, there is no job that ages and fatigues people faster.

I found this significant: "If he's not given a second term ..."

Given? That's bizarre on its own.

Big question today is, will Trump back down a sing the bill or veto it or just let a pocket veto happen?

The photo from Palm Beach Wednesday night is the first one I have seen of trump where he looked noticeably older, where his appearance seemed changed. Maybe a little bit previously, but of course, he is four years older than when he ran in 2016. Anyway, why would the 'job' age him? What job? Let's face it, no president in living memory has ever spent less time actually working than donald j trump. No, I think what may be getting trump down -- w-a-y down in a way his physical appearance reflects -- is the realization his presidency is ending. And there is absolutely nothing he can do about it.

Not only does he face the humiliation of being a sitting president rejected by American voters, once out of office he faces severe financial problems, he faces criminal prosecutions. He knows he's made many enemies, he knows a huge swath of the American public despise him. Trouble ahead and few allies, other than the ones he can pay to be allies.

All the business failures he's suffered, the way he always seems to convince himself, "This time it will be different." But it never really is. I think what has aged him is knowing, this time he screwed up on a world stage. This time it might really be over.

I hope so anyway! ;)

If you search "dejected trump tulsa" you'll see some other sad pictures of Trump.

What he can do is create a Legitimate Presidency which he continues to occupy, to the continued acclaim of the Trumptrash crowd.
If he can have the White House Presidency (as distinct from the Legitimate Presidency) stripped from him while he's the sole President, imagine what they can do to him when he's not.
All the business failures he's suffered, the way he always seems to convince himself, "This time it will be different."
Meaning "This time I won't be let down", which was the explanation for each and every one of those failures. And lo, he's been let down again - by the Republican Party. The party he was the saviour of in 2016, let's not forget.
But it never really is. I think what has aged him is knowing, this time he screwed up on a world stage. This time it might really be over.
I think it's because his make-up team has jumped ship like so many others.
I hope so anyway! ;)
I'm sure he's very unhappy. Very very unhappy. Strongly unhappy. Very strongly. And this gratifies me enormously.

I don't know how gleeful I am, but I'm looking forward to Trump's future legal problems and potential indictment.
That'll be a slowly-paced story. Then again, it'll be lots of different slowly-paced stories, each with its own cast of characters, many overlapping. Dissertations will be written about it.

...I'm sure he's very unhappy. Very very unhappy. Strongly unhappy. Very strongly. And this gratifies me enormously.

Below is a quote from an article in The New Yorker magazine published in early November. It is titled, "Why [t]rump Can't Afford to Lose," by Jane Mayer.
A business friend of his from New York said, “You can’t broach [losing the election] with him. He’d be furious at the suggestion that he could lose.” In better times, Trump has reveled in being President. Last winter, a Cabinet secretary told me Trump had confided that he couldn’t imagine returning to his former life as a real-estate developer. As the Cabinet secretary recalled, the two men were gliding along in a motorcade, surrounded by throngs of adoring supporters, when Trump remarked, “Isn’t this incredible? After this, I could never return to ordering windows. It would be so boring.” The New Yorker

Don't let the door hit you on your way out donnie. ;)

The adoring throngs at his rallies and the adulation have always been what it's all about for Trump. They are as necessary now to feed his narcissism as much as the hamberders and diet coke are to feed his body. He's addicted and conceding the presidency would mean having to go through withdrawal. So he will continue to hold his rallies and claim he will run and win in 2024.
