The Big One fails.

Supreme Court rejects Texas lawsuit to overturn Biden victory.

HOUSTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a lawsuit backed by President Donald Trump to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory, ending a desperate attempt to get legal issues rejected by state and federal judges before the nation’s highest court.

The court’s order was its second this week rebuffing Republican requests that it get involved in the 2020 election outcome. The justices turned away an appeal from Pennsylvania Republicans on Tuesday.

Georgia, where is signature verification approval? What do you have to lose? Must move quickly!

The tweets are going to be unhinged . . . well, more than the normal unhinging.

If the Supreme Court shows great Wisdom and Courage, the American People will win perhaps the most important case in history, and our Electoral Process will be respected again!
Indeed DD, indeed.

Dont worry.

That Texas suit has no chance.

A bunch of states have now joined the Texas lawsuit, arguing that the Equal Protection Clause has been violated in this election from state-to-state.

Louisiana,
Arkansas,
Alabama,
Florida,
Kentucky,
Mississippi,
South Carolina,
South Dakota.

Guys, we gotta step up the chanting !!

In unison. Loudly!!

Its over!! Its over!! Its over!! Its over!! Its over!! Its over!! Its over!! Its over!! Its over!! Its over!! Its over!! Its over!!

Only Alito and Thomas dissented, on the purely technical ground that they felt the case fell under their jurisdiction, but also indicating that Trump would still not have gotten any other relief beyond just a hearing. So, presumably, the three Justices Trump put there (including one he rammed through for the express purpose of hearing such a case) joined in rejecting the suit.

Yeah, there's gonna be some unhinged tweeting.

Ben Sasse says what sensible people think (The Hill via MSN)-

"Since Election Night, a lot of people have been confusing voters by spinning Kenyan Birther-type, 'Chavez rigged the election from the grave' conspiracy theories, but every American who cares about the rule of law should take comfort that the Supreme Court - including all three of President Trump's picks - closed the book on the nonsense," Sasse said in a statement.

If the GOP has any sense of country-over-party, i.e., actual patriotism, they'll turn away from the Trumps and toward the Sasses in their party for the future. They probably will not- Trump showed them the power in appealing to the most common denominator instead of the best instincts of the country; but there's hope.

You mean this sort of thing?

“Perhaps law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution.”

Yeah, I saw that. I seem to remember that something very much like that reasoning, if not that exact wording, led to a big war hereabouts around 160 years ago.

I would guess, though, that that is just a general first-reaction grousing. Also...you know that thing that the rightwingers like to accuse liberals of, the "virtue-signaling" thing? Yeah...this is like that. For the sake of the votes from a constituency that likes to hear that sort of thing, the GOP in Texas is perfectly willing to say them, even when they have no real intention of doing them.

Sadly, the evidence says no.

What Mar a lago Richmond as the capital of a newly minted Confederacy run by Donald 'Jefferson Davis' Trump?

So, two dissents, but the dissents are on technical grounds and not the merits of the case.

ETA: Ninja-ed.

"Statement of Justice Alito, with whom Justice Thomas joins:

In my view, we do not have discretion to deny the filing of a bill of complaint in a case that falls within our original jurisdiction. See Arizona v. California, 589 U. S. ___(Feb. 24, 2020) (Thomas, J., dissenting). I would therefore grant the motion to file the bill of complaint but would not grant other relief, and I express no view on any other issue."

So, as I read that, my understanding is...

7-2 against granting of the bill of complaint...

...but even if granted,

9-0 against nullifying the EC votes of Wisconsin. Pennsylvania, Georgia and Michigan

This was the "Big One" Bubba and it is TOAST!
