Sources claim Sen. Feinstein suffers severe cognitive decline

Sure, the stuff people notice most, like the intense ego and blowhard ways, aren't sign of senility, it's just his ****** character.

But compare his speaking now vs old recordings from the 90's and it's pretty clear. He was always a dick, but he didn't ramble nearly as much back then.

Who does cucumbers?

Biden doesn't have a speech impediment. Look at old videos of him. He was a quick and confident speaker, he could think on his feet. What he said was frequently complete ********, but he came up with it fast, and could keep on point.

He isn't nearly what he used to be.

He's had a stutter problem all his life, and he has talked about it a lot. It looks like he's lost a step, but he's still competent and responsible, which will be a vast improvement over the last four years.

Morality had nothing to do with any of it. Franken got pushed out because Gillibrand made a move against him in order to boost her own profile in the midst of "me too". Had Franken's replacement not been guaranteed to be another Democrat, he never would have been pushed out, and many Democrats regret that he was and blame Gillibrand for it.

Franken folded too easily. He could have been contrite and apologetic, and agreed to cooperate with a "full investigation," whatever that might have been. Some of the allegations sounded downright silly. I suspect a lot of his fellow senators wouldn't have wanted their own behavior, especially before they were elected, examined too closely.

He can put together a coherent sentence and doesn’t lose his train of thought mid-way through. If Biden is in cognitive decline, what the hell has Trump been going through?

There was an episode of "House" in which a man brought his elderly mother to the hospital because she was suffering significant changes in her behavior and thought patterns. It turned out she was suffering brain damage from the syphilis she had contracted when she was young, because the treatment she received at the time suppressed it without completely getting rid of it, and it had become active again.
Maybe he didn't make it through his "personal Vietnam" after all. :D

those were also more controlled, friendlier environments. He was a socialite, not a politician. He never had to answer tough questions. Any time he had to play tough businessman or something like that, it was for fawning fanboys.

Trump's not senile, he's just an ignorant blowhole.
Seriously, he's no better than your grandma's facebook feed.

I could be wrong, but isn't one of the ways that certain people react to dementia is that it amplifies certain aspects of their character? (i.e. if you were dick before, you're a super-dick after)

Like he ever avoided hard questions.

"Less than a year later, Mr Trump gave an interview with Playboy magazine that was positioned as a tease of a future in politics. He said wasn't impressed with the Soviet Union or former President Mikhail Gorbachev, who lost control of Russia because he didn't have a "firm enough hand".

When asked by Playboy writer Glenn Plaskin if he meant a "firm hand as in China", Mr Trump said the Chinese government almost blew it when students poured into Tiananmen Square."

Who am I going to believe, you or my lying eyes?

I work with dementia sufferers four days a week, from those that are barely starting to show symptoms to those that have full-blown dementia and are usually homed in a secure unit to keep them safe.

As part of my job, I have had to do several courses on understanding and recognizing dementia.

I can say without a doubt, that Biden does not have dementia in any form. What he does have is a common and fatal disease called "aging." Yes, that makes him slightly less sharp than he might have been in his 50's and 60's, but the same thing happens to us all. Heck, my Grandfather wasn't as sharp in his 90's as he was in his 60's, but he still could debate most people under the table.

I would suggest that Trump probably does not have dementia either, though he does display some signs of it, and possibly more if things that have been claimed about him by his ex-administration staff are true. Out of the two of them, if I had to guess, I'd say that Trump had the higher likelihood of having a form of mental deterioration, but without specific knowledge of the truth of the claims, I wouldn't say that he had any early dementia either. He certainly doesn't have any obvious signs that stand out as glaring warning signs. He does however have a lot of glaring warning signs of having a narcissistic personality disorder.

I think this speaks volumes about the quality of character of Democrats vs. Republicans.

A democrat politician shows signs that they may no longer be competent... those in charge attempt to address the issue, to the benefit of both the party and country.

Not with RBG.

Of course, she was not exactly a Democratic politician, but she thought she could ride out another decade on the strength of a dying wish.

Yes, it's just you.

Really? You don't think it's a little bit weird for someone on a senator's staff to call up the New York Post and say, "my guy is senile, but you didn't hear it from me"? You don't think it's a little weird for media outlets to run with these against-their-own-interest stories?

Why would a politician want or have anyone like that on their staff?

Unless the leaks are intentional? In which case, why would the media want to just publish whatever the politician's office wants them to publish?

I'm sorry, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder how you can possibly not think it's weird.

In his younger days, Trump took out a full page ad demanding that the Central Park 5 be put to death (later exonerated) and went on Howard Stern to talk about how hot his own daughter was.

He was always a blowhard bastard. But in the past, he was a more coherent bastard.

When exactly did she show she wasn't competent?

I don't think she was incompetent. Her refusing to retire in a strategic way was likely a result of hubris, not senility.

She thought her legacy was worth gambling a whole generation's fate and she (and we) all lost when she gave up the ghost.

RGB squandered her legacy by refusing to retire when the opportunity presented itself.
