Trump's Coup d'état.

No. They never applied for cert from the SC, only injunctive relief. There is nothing left. That is according to the lawyers I have been reading on Twitter (PopeHat and others)

Besides, so what? What they NEEDED in order to prevent the election from going forward was injunctive relief. It does them no good to wait until March for the court to hear the case. At that point, it's over, Biden is President. These morons don't actually think that the SC will rule that he's not President after he's sworn in, do they?
I'm pretty sure the birthers never gave up throughout Obama's 2 terms though the calls were fewer in the second term until Trump came along to campaign on lies in 2016.

These are likely the same people who thought that proving that President Obama wasn't really a citizen would reverse the 2008 election and make McCain President.
The birthers would not have wanted McCain as president, either.

Today was a bit of crazy day. That is till I realized

This is a tale
told by an idiot
filled with sound and fury
signifying nothing

Yesterday the court refused to issue an injunction to stop the Pennsylvania slate of electors from voting.
Yesterday 49 states out of 50 states reached safe harbor.

Today a case was filed at SCOTUS today. That's it. Nothing else. Probably one of many.
The case was based on pretty much the same arguments as the Pennsylvania case. No dates have been scheduled for the court to hear the case. SCOTUS is not hearing the case tomorrow. They may never hear it.
Tomorrow is Thursday and the day after is Friday.
Then on Monday, the electoral college meets and casts their votes.

Why would Trump sign on to this? He has enough flunkies already doing his dirty work. This is like climbing out of a lifeboat to board the Titanic as it's going down.

He must enjoy beat downs. I don't get it.

It is to increase the important percentage of republicans who do not accept the election results. I mean over 20% of republicans think Biden won in a free and fair election and you got to get that number down somehow.

What is NOT said is that about 75% of Republicans have refused to express an opinion on this issue one way or another. That is, they are not necessarily in the Trump cult, but circumstances being what they are today, they haven't the balls to speak their mind out loud for fear of losing that part of their body which contains it. Only the small remainder of well under 10% are the OUT-AND-PROUD die-hard cross-eyed Maga-cultists.

Montana is one of the states that sent a damn ballot to every registered voter, unsolicited!

Every state that made voting by mail easier during the pandemic should sue every state that didn't for contributing to the virus's spread.
Unless the state went to Trump, then the method of voting was fine.

The "strategy" of this comical legal campaign appears to be relentlessly repeating the words "voter fraud" and refusing to check their own documents for spelling errors.
Not quite, it is shouting and screaming "fraud" at press conferences but in court literally saying "this is not about fraud". (Oh and also liking those red squiggly lines under important words.)

Unless the state went to Trump, then the method of voting was fine.
Which means if any of these silly suits about voting methods actually gets up, it leaves the way open for Democrat states to challenge and overturn every Republican state election on the same grounds. Ludicrous, I know, but that would turn the whole mid-west blue against the wishes of a whole bunch of flabbergasted rednecks. And Biden would win the EC something like 500 to a handful.

Why?
Because Trump is not an adult who understands consequences.
Because Trump most likely has a severe mental disorder.
Because Trump really believes he is destined to win everything he attempts.
Because Trump cannot understand any part of this loss.
Because Trump is floundering and panicking.

Pick as many as you like.

I suppose it's an ego thing. He can't imagine himself not being part of something so important.

Of course, that's really all related to Ladewig's comments. The man is nuts.

The Kraken loses again

I use to like that name. The new Seattle NHL hockey team is the Kracken. Now I want it changed.

Sydney Powell was going to unleash The Kracken on America and take back the country for the Orange Troll.

Except the Kracken is a prolific loser.
She's 0 for 8. Batting .000.

Which is only slightly worse than the Trump.

Trump is 1 for 55. Batting .018

Here is my bet.

At least gorsuch and roberts are not going to sign the supreme court up for having to become experts in 50 state constitutions and sets of precedent to adjudicate if state law was adhered to.

That is just a nutty demand. I would say it is even nuttier as a basis for overturning the electoral votes than the request to overturn by itself.

My bet is simply that the court without dissent will do one of two things.

1.Deny request for "leave to file".

Or

2. Grant leave and dismiss on merit without hearing arguments.

106 Republican House members file a motion in support of Paxton.

To quote a recent Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal comic, "You don't get gold by piling **** really high."

The whole comic works for the election, if you replace references to Reptilians with election fraud.
"If one piece of bad evidence is only as good as one-millionth of a piece of good evidence, to prove the reptile theory election fraud all we have to do is get people to say they're pretty sure it's true ten million times."

That would be almost 1/5 of congress critters (and thus almost 2/5 of Republicans —at least it's nowhere close to a majority but it's still way too high a number of seditious, antidemocratic people in high positions of power).

Going back to whether this is a coup attempt, if by some miracle this process resulted in Trump being officially sworn in on the 20th of January, does anyone here believe that these folk who have been aiding and abetting would say "Sorry, we didn't mean that. This is wrong and should be stopped". Does anyone here believe Trump would say "actually, I didn't really want to be president & this was just a money making scam". That's what it would take for this to not be an attempt.

Or if you want to go to the shooting blanks analogy, when our shooter realizes that one of their shots was not actually a blank, do they shoot again to ensure a kill or do they stop shooting & attempt to succor their victim?
