Sunday:
Coronavirus - countries (Worldometers, Nov. 8, 2020)
Deaths per million (Total deaths) New cases Serious/Critical
Sweden: 595 (6,022) 4,697* 92 *according to SVT.se No new numbers Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Denmark: 128 (743) 891* 30 *Based on 67,156 tests, positives 1.3 %, according to TV2.dk Denmark is now one of 10 countries with a per-capita testing rate of 1 (or higher) per person. (Doesn’t include mink!)
Finland: 65 (362) 412 13 From now on, Finland’s numbers will only be updated on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. For some reason, the number of new cases was released yesterday, but nothing the day before.
Norway: 52 (285) 489 19
Iceland: 58* (20) 15 4 *Two more deaths make Iceland move up the list of per-capita deaths.
Iceland has 635 active cases, Faroe Islands 4, New Zealand 43.
The Faroe Islands have 5 in quarantine, 0 hospitalized.
They seem to have been celebrating the elimination. I hope they’re right.
Two people, who are related, tested Covid positive yesterday. One of them arrived from abroad recently.
Two new Covid cases (KVF.fo, Nov. 8, 2020)

A very short video from Sweden:
Här är jättekön för testning av covid-19 – går runt flera kvarter (Expressen.se, Nov. 9, 2020)
Here is the huge line for Covid-19 tests - it spans several blocks

I imagine that when they finally reach the testing center, they will be confronted by two rallies, the virus deniers yelling, "Stop the tests!", and the sane protesters worried about the state of Sweden's coronavirus data yelling, "Count the tests!"

It is possible that CC is either at the rally or still standing in line somewhere.

Please don't call out other ISF members.

Speaking of which, I hope that mink farming for fur will be banned across the EU after this. It's pretty astounding that it is allowed. I looked this up and found that the UK banned it 20 years ago. Time for it to go everywhere in the EU as well.

The Faroe Islands have 7 in quarantine, 0 hospitalized.
Everyone travelling to the Faroes will now be required to get tested for Covid-19 three days prior to arrival, get tested upon arrival and then undergo a follow-up test six days after arrival.
According to the Prime Minister, there have been many recent examples of incoming travellers testing negative upon arrival but then testing positive at the follow-up test six days later.
Stricter border controls (KVF.fo, Nov. 9, 2020)
I wonder how many of those cases got infected on the plane …

I hope so too, but even in Denmark, conservatives and libertarians are now trying to put a stop to the ongoing culling:

All fur farming is banned here in Norway from 2025. The law was only passed in June 2019, so the farmers have been given five years to phase it out. Perhaps it is possible to speed that up a bit. I sent a mail to FHI asking them what is being done to ensure that covid doesn't get into mink here in Norway, too.

The measures taken in Denmark in an attempt to prevent the virus from spreading, at first, to other farms in the region, and later, to other regions were all in vain, which is why they took the more drastic measure of culling all mink even in parts of the country so far unaffected.

They aren't even sure how it spreads from farm to farm and from region to region, but if it is because seagulls spread it, not by being infected themselves but because virus sticks to their feet (from mink feces? mink carcasses?), mink farms would have to be almost hermetically sealed as would the compost heaps with remnants of mink farming.

In Sweden, Björn Olsen is not alone:
Professors: Cull all mink in Sweden, too

In an hour, when the new numbers since Friday are released, we'll see what the situation is like in all of Sweden asa whole.
This is about excess mortality in Sweden from all causes, which was at a record high in the spring of 2020, and now seems to be rising again:

Vilde tal: 273 nordjyder smittet med corona fra mink (BT, Nov. 9, 2020)
Wild numbers: 273 people in Norther Jutland infected with coronavirus from mink

This does't mean that they were all infected with Cluster 5. It doesn't even mean that they. were directly infected by mink. It just means that they were infected with a strain of the virus that had been in mink at one point.
The majority of leading (medical) experts seem to agree with the government's decision to cull all mink in Denmark even if the precaution may turn out to have been unnecessary in a month or two.
Erring on the side of caution ...

Restrictions? Recommendations? Advice? Stricter Advice

Good news and bad news. But unfortunately, it’s the Trump kind of good news, since the bad news is that what might appear to be good news is actually very bad. It it weren’t so bad, the good news would have been that the number of new registered cases may have peaked, but the reason is that people just can’t get tested anymore:

– Att hela tiden ropa efter mer och tänka att det är någon som ska komma och fråga vart man är på väg – att någon ska bevaka en och se till att man följer restriktionerna – det är så klart inte särskilt enkelt, säger hon och understryker att i en befolkning med tio miljoner människor måste var och en ta ett stort eget ansvar.
Hallengren: Att införa tvingande åtgärder inte enkelt (SVT.se, Nov. 11, 2020)
– To keep calling for more and think that somebody has to show up to ask you where you are going – that somebody has to guard you and make sure that you adhere to the restrictions – it is obviously not as simple as that, she says and emphasizes that in a population of ten million people, each and everyone has to take a big responsibility.
Hallengren (minister of social affairs): It isn’t simple to indtroduce new measures

Skärpta restriktioner i länet – Invånare: ”Behövs absolut!” (SVT.se, Nov. 10, 2020)
In accordance with doctors for infection prevention and Regional councils, the Public Health Agency has decided to introduce stricter general advice.
Tightened restrictions in the region – the population: ”Absolutely necessary!”

It is very difficult to understand why we can’t all follow the instructions, since they are as detailed and easy to understand as always, just a little more so.

An article describing the difference between Sweden and the other Nordic countries, Norway in particular:
As early as February, Iceland was working actively on contact tracing. Because of that, Iceland was the first country to discover that Austria was a hotbed of infections - and sounded the alarm to the rest of Europe.
In Norway, they have kept to one strategy: testing, tracng and isolating. Today the country has less than one twentieth of the number of deaths that Sweden has and in Iceland only 24 people have died with corona.
– We are pleased and happy that we have avoided so many deaths and that we have had the time and opportunity to develop other strategies, says Camilla Stoltenberg, Director General of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
Sweden reduced the testing
In Sweden, on the other hand, contact tracing was reduced at the same time as signs of societal spread began to appear.
– It is not so meaningful anymore, when you have many cases in society, to find all chains of infection. It will not stop the epidemic in this situation, said Anders Tegnell, Sweden's state epidemiologist, in Expressen TV on March 12.
– At the same time, the advice from both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the EU Disease Control Authority (ECDC) was to test, test, test and trace infections.
As early as March, both Norway and Iceland increased the number of covid tests considerably. In Sweden, it did not start until summer was approaching.

Still more people in Stockholm need ICU care for Covid-19. At the Karolinska Hospital in Huddinge, they are now asking the staff at the ICU wards to work in 12.5 hour shifts again, P4 Stockholm reports.
– People are very tired after the spring we had, we feel that we can’t stand working for 12.5 hours again, says ICU nurse Cajsa Persson to the radio.
But according to the hospital chief, it is not possible to work with the usual shifts with the current pressure from new patients being as it is.

This is a total catastrophe, well reported by you Dann.
I always read the thread, it is important at many levels.

Exactly the same thing happened in Britain, with the same justification. We're still paying for that.

Finland: 66 (365) 238 16
Norway: 52 (285) 624 23
Iceland has 542 active cases, Faroe Islands 3, New Zealand 52.

New recommendations in effect from 13 November and for the rest of the year (corona.fo, Nov. 10, 2020)
The Government tightens border controls and travel advice (corona.fo, Nov. 9, 2020)

I have moved Iceland up because the country now has had more deaths per million than Norway and Finland. Iceland's number of new cases is still going down, and the number of active cases is decreasing every day, so I think they are will soon have it under control again.
The new policies of border control in the Faroe Islands are probably inspired by Iceland's as well as their own experiences with transmission of the virus from travelers.
