2020 Presidential Election part 2

When will Biden come out and declare provisional victory? Last Friday, in a rare fit of whimsy, I bought an air horn as a sign of solidarity for the impending Biden victory and I aim to use it.

Just hope his health can keep up. The job can be stressful, and he is inheriting an administration in chaos.

Apart from that, contending with a hitherto badly managed pandemic crisis, a belligerent senate that will do everything in its power to cripple the government, a Trump who will probably begin validating Qanon crap to ensure some sort if internal turmoil, and repairing trump's policy idiocies, apart from his regular duties as President.

Hope he has a supportive and competent team of secretaries and bureaucrats .

Just remember, that as VP he's done this kind of thing before.

I think we need more states to be like Nebraska and Maine...and split their electorial votes among the candiates according to what percentage of the vote they get. I would rather see the EC abolished altogether, but I don't think that is doable.

I can't keep up with the thread, so I don't know if this has been replied to.
It is a suggestion I've been making for probably several decades now. The problem with it, however, is Gerrymandering. Until you can do something about that, it's not such a great idea.

Because Trump is only one symptom of the deeper, underlying problem, Democrats and democrats better start thinking about how to stop the next one, who, unless they repealed the Law of Regression to the Mean, will be far more intelligent, controlled, and in charge than Trump was, because Trump couldn't have been any less intelligent, controlled, and in charge. What if the next guy *doesn't* say the quiet parts out loud?

I whole-heartedly agree. The Hitlers, Stalins, Pol Pots, and even someone as lame as Trump are not the causes of evil. They are just the scum feeding on it.

Anybody else think the White House is a lot like the movie "Downfall" at this moment?

You’ve put it in a new perspective for me.

[Ladewig hops from foot to foot] When can we see the made-for-TV-movie?!

I so want to see the closed-door meltdown.

Yeah, it can't hurt that he's worked with McConnell before, though I'd be happier if McConnell was gone. The senate isn't quite settled yet, though. I expect it'll remain a red majority, but it looks like a tighter margin.

Okay we all get the "Trump isn't the disease he's a symptom" thing.

But here's the thing. Treating a disease is a lot easier after you get rid of the big, major symptoms that are causing the most damage and pain.

And besides the whole "Symptom/disease" metaphor isn't perfect because the "symptoms" in politics aren't passive.

Cancer cells aren't trolling the libs or seeing how much they can get away with.

Oh, it's fine to get rid of the symptom. Just don't imagine you cured the disease.

Mostly the responses you missed echoed your concern for gerrymandering.

Trump Tweets

“This is what we know. We have to go back to the state level and how this morass came to be in the first instance. The Governor, Wolf, and the State Supreme Court, flagrantly violated the Constitution of the U.S. The power to set these rules and regulations is vested in the...

....Legislature. They just ignored that, ignored the Constitution. Now we bring it down to the counting houses, and outrageously, observers, who are the sentinels of integrity & transparency, were excluded. Pennsylvania has conducted itself in a horrible lawless way, and....

....hopefully this will be corrected at the Supreme Court of the United States. Also, these late ballots past Election Day are illegal, exactly what the President has been saying. The Supreme Court, in extraordinary circumstances,...

....has been able to render decisions in a matter of days.” Ken Starr, former Independent Counsel @Varneyco

These unevidenced criminal accusations, this blatant libel ... can't they be held responsible for that?

It's sad. Those in the Trump regime are still too cowardly to tell Trump that he's naked.

Tonight. 8 pm. (According to a headline I saw at Drudge. Other stories I saw said "in prime time", without giving a time.)

He might not use those words. In fact, I doubt he will. Only the state officials can declare victors, after all. I suspect he might say something very much like that, just to contrast his approach with that other guy who was on the ballot.

However, I strongly suspect that he won't leave any doubt as to who he thinks the next President will be.

The press will call the election today and so will Biden.

It’s interesting to me how many people were Trump true believers. I thought a lot of R were just along for the ride in a mutually beneficial relationship. But now that that’s coming to an end a surprising amount are willing to go down with the ship.

Those kind of statements aren’t that bad. Some others are saying some treasonous stuff, like arresting vote counters or taking ballots by force.

Isn't Trump's only hope that PA counts those postmarked ballots? Is there more to this ploy than those ballots getting segregated?

That's what I'm seeing. I'm not that familiar with his politics, but he's a breath of fresh air simply as a human being.

He's a moderate to conservative Democrat. This guy took the train 5 days a week for 36 years. He really is an every day Joe. He is use to rubbing shoulders with the riff raff.

One may not like his politics but it's very hard not to like him as a human being.

Exactly the opposite of Trump. I absolutely despised Trump's policies, but I hated him as a human being ten times more. In all my life, I've never encountered a more despicable character than Trump. Never ever have I seen anyone more self centered. Never have I encountered a more dishonest person. It's not that Trump intends to lie. It's just that the truth and the facts are totally irrelevant to him. So he says only what he thinks is self serving.

I think back to this last year and I truly believe this. Trump could have easily won this election in a landslide. COVID politically could have given him the election. All he had to do was take it seriously and actually lead. Lead the country against an invisible foe.

But Trump is lazy and absolutely refuses to be second chair to scientists and a disease. All he ever did was blame everyone and everything else. He could have rallied the nation. Instead, he held rallies for nutjobs who worshipped at his feet.
