2020 Presidential Election part 2

Both PA and GA seem to be heading for a Biden win. If he gets those (46 votes between them), he is in pretty and can even afford to lose AZ. But I would like to see him retain AZ (6 votes) for a total of 52 votes. That would be a pretty emphatic EC win, and thanks for playing, Donny Two-Weeks.

Arizone has 11 Electorial votes. Think you are confusing it with Nevada.

Enough with the projections already! The only thing I want to see right now (besides an actual final total) is a time projection of when the next batch of vote totals are coming in. Real numbers.

I know it's ratings month but dragging this out is excruciating.

THe networks have no control over how votes are counted or when the updates are issued.

They were comet pizza boxes. dun dun dun

I almost replied to this as a serious post, but I figured out I must be missing something. I didn't recognize the pizzagate reference until I did a google search for Comet Pizza.

I wanted to respond to a post in the "party" thread, but I thought my response was a bit too serious for that thread, so I'm bringing it here.

I really wonder/am curious about people who feel they have personally lost something under one administration or another, and hope to gain something under another.

I suppose if it is just peace of mind, that is OK too.

P.S.

I think the people with experience in governing are a big part of the problem, i.e. career politicians.

I hear you. I frequently have to remind myself that the things I do on my job, and taking care of my health, and maintaining good relationships with family and friends will have far more effect on me than whatever comes out of Washington.

However, there are real world consequences as well.

I believe that Trump has in fact been inept an handling the coronavirus, and I think Joe Biden will do better if given the chance, so that's a case where my health or conceivably my life might depends on who wins the election.

I have studied the health care problem and I have reluctantly concluded that this is a problem that requires government involvement in the solution. Private sector solutions result in death and/or bankruptcies. The Republicans have attacked government involvement. That's a real world issue with direct effect on me and my well being.

There is also a lot of simply not liking to listen to Trump tell lies so often, even if I am not affected by each one of them personally. I know that the size of his inauguration crowds relative to Obama's doesn't affect my life, but someone who will lie about something like that will also lie about important things, and he has.

I could go on and on, but there are other threads for that. For the purposes of this thread, what I am saying is that I do think sometimes people get too emotionally invested in who wins an election, that they should be more focused on the things that they control, but this election does have real world, personal, consequences, for us, for our families and friends, and for ordinary people across America. Too much indifference isn't good, either.

I don't know how I didn't add it up until now. Biden is way ahead in AZ and NV, with 11 and 6 votes respectively. He's currently at 253. Adding the 17 makes it 270, and a win. I just heaved a great sigh of relief.

I would like the margin to be a lot larger, with the win of another state perhaps. But for now, it's looking darn good for Biden. And the country.

Would be nice, but personally I'm also enjoying seeing fellow-thinkers revel in Trump's suffering.

Oh, I'm liking that, too. It's just seeing the newspeople vamping for hours that gets tiring.

Oh I absolutely agree. There's no available hospital beds in any of the city I live in right now, and it's not that big of a city. My kids can't go to school, I can't visit certain people without potentially endangering their lives or perhaps one of my loved ones in my home. I now can't get temperature scanned at work and wear a mask all day. I can't go visit family for the holidays.

Those are actually kind of serious problems for me that I didn't have earlier and maybe never had to.

When they called AZ it was expected that Biden’s lead would shrink to about 30k

That latest from Pennsylvania indicated the last bunch mail-in ballots went to Biden 9-1.

I agree strongly with that.

We're all interested in how it will affect us personally and it can be hard to type all that up while discussing the overall election.

Me, I don't like seeing my American friends in fear or poverty or sickness.

I've thought that about other elections. It's like rooting for your favorite sports team -- ultimately, who wins doesn't really matter all that much.

This election though, it's literally life and death, especially what's done over the next year or so.

I didn't see if anyone noticed this, but two GA Senate seats will be a runoff. The Senate isn't necessarily lost either, but it's a tough, uphill battle.

It's the second biggest story in the election coverage, after, of course, the White House race.

While we are waiting for those last few votes from Georgia to (hopefully) put Biden in the lead, here's an article reminding people that those last few votes aren't actually the last few votes:

https://www.ajc.com/politics/more-b...rovisional-voters/2IKU3WM5XZD7FDQE5DAOKYXTMY/

Military, overseas, and provisional ballots are still out there. Also, the article doesn't mention it, but there are ballots that have to be "cured", and those can be turned in up until 5:00 tomorrow. There's no doubt at all that we will be in recount territory when Georgia is done.

That's actually kind of good news for Biden. Democrats generally pick up votes in recounts. It turns out that Democratic voters aren't as good at following directions, so they do things like put a check mark next to a name instead of filling in an oval, or they go to the wrong precinct.

That might not have as much effect as I've seen it have in previous elections. I was listening to the official that runs elections in Georgia, and they are doing things the first time through that are often only done in recounts. Typically, the first time through is a pure machine count, and the second time through, ballots that don't register a vote are looked at by hand, and a panel that includes people appointed by Republicans and by Democrats examine it to see if there's a clear indication of voter intent. Georgia is already doing that on the first pass, which might explain some of the slow counting.

So, even if 100% of the count is conducted tonight, that isn't really 100% of the count.

But, if Biden happened to be in the lead when it gets to 100%, that would still be pretty cool.
