This episode of going to the hospital and coming back out has been really strange.
And this was also when he lost another few points in the polls, when nothing else was happening to cause that. I wonder whether trying to hard to remind us of dictators was at least part of the cause. I'm not expecting most people to think, each step of the way "This is just like when Kim Jon Un did this" and "That is just like when Nicolae Ceaușescu did that" and "This is just like when Hussein had Baghdad Bob do this", but just that the overall style of his presentation throughout the hospital episode has been dictator-styled and I think most people are aware of the dictator style even if they can't name details of where it came from.
- Getting a doctor to lie to the country about his condition
- Having a group of them stand outside in military-like formation during the lie session(s) when only one would speak at the microphone (I'm surprised there wasn't a row of American flags behind them)
- Somehow getting the hospital to let him use a conference room for a pretending-to-read-&-write photo shoot
- Leaving when he had not really recovered yet but thought he'd be able to fake it, just so he could say he was out
- Doing his "behold me, lowly mortals" pose on the balcony when he arrived at the White House, complete with not only thumbs-up and waves to punctuate the hands-down-doing-nothing spans but even a couple of salutes in a context where saluting was out of place
- Trying to fake us all out that he was breathing fine during that pose when we could all clearly see not only the gasping & wheezing but also the painful attempt to hide it
