Watching the debate tonight?

Most of the major news outlets are reporting the the debate commission is going to give the moderators of the debates the ability to turn off microphones. I expect Trump will balk and use it as his excuse to put his tail between his legs and scurry off.

that would be my guess, too.

But if the polls keep on looking dire for Trump, he will seek the limelight again, simply because he firmly believes he convince anyone if he gets to talk and talk.

I don't know how effective that would be. They'd still be talking in the studio, and the other mikes would probably pick it up. Trump might not even know when his mike is off. Maybe the candidates need to be in soundproof boxes, or just sitting in different places like so many other virtual events.

Trump shouting in the background will make him look very pathetic.

Trump Tweets

I won the debate big, based on compilation of polls etc. Thank you!

The Trump and Biden Campaign agreed on a debate format, and Trump from the get-go decided to break the agreement.

Biden should make it abundantly clear that for the next debate he expects a real commitment from Trump to actually keep the promise he made about having an actual debate;
and that he also expects that Trump won't keep that promise, either.

It's still disruptive to anyone nearby. I wouldn't want to give the Trump campaign free footage of Biden struggling with fluency because there's a manbaby without a microphone bawling in the studio.

That may have been a tactical mistake by Biden. Maybe he should not have responded at all to Trump and just spoken directly to Chris Wallace, and let Wallace deal with Trump's rants. Biden could even have made light of it: "Chris, let me know when it's my turn;" "Chris, would you invite the President to take a breath," etc.

Let me guess... they made polls of Ivanka, Jared, Junior, Eric and Melania. A compilation of these polls shows that 80 % of people give Trump the win.

There is a theory ("people are saying") that Trump has so surrounded himself with yes-men that nobody dares tell him how badly the debate went for him. Not sure I believe that, judging by how much time the Führer watches TV.

Maybe if his staffers made a fake TV out of a cardboard box and one of them stuck their head inside it, they could make a fake news broadcast declaring everyone agrees Trump won the debate bigly.

Nominations for the next debate moderator? I vote for Simon Cowell wielding a loud buzzer.

According to numerous ex-staffers, everybody around him is afraid to tell him ANYTHING that would upset him. The intelligence staff can't mention Russia.
President Donald Trump would blow up at briefers who tried to tell him about Russia's malign actions towards the US, according to CNN.

What makes you think they don't do that now?

The other Moderators are C-SPAN political editor Steve Scully in Miami and NBC White House correspondent Kristen Welker in Nashville.

Yeah, I knew other correspondents were lined up. My point was that they need somebody with more weight and their own following to stand up to Trump. Barbara Walters? Oprah Winfrey? Even the network anchors, particularly Lester Holt, would have more impact.

Why do you want someone to stand up to Trump?
