Plenty of people with adventurous sex lives in private have no problem acting respectfully in public places, and I still see no evidence that this woman was engaged in any deliberate voyeurism or exhibitionism during the normal use of a locker room and sauna.

That Palatine, Illinois school district that gave rise to "Can she put the towel over her eyes?" voted this fall to remove any towel restriction. Trans girls were just like regular girls, so no towel required, no privacy curtain, no extra restrictions.

The decision to allow her to continue to use the women's facilities is the correct one, and extending use of the private room to those that object is a polite gesture, though not necessary.

I don't know enough of the motivations of individuals involved here to declare them bigots, but it is unambiguously clear that this issue has been adopted by clearly bigoted individuals and organizations for the purposes of demonizing trans people and shaping public policy. I am deeply suspicious of those that seem to find themselves in alignment with theocratic bigots.

Actually, "have the guts" probably isn't the best expression to use. I think "Have the balls" to call Julia and the Evergreen girls and all the others bigots fits the moment more perfectly. Interestingly, the use of that expression provides an opportunity to note that there are indeed a lot of women with more balls than you, but you have to understand that's speaking metaphorically. They don't actually have testicles, and even if they did, quantity, or even size, of those testicles would not matter. It's just an expression. Kind of sexist, really, equating courage and masculinity. That is obviously not an actual correlation.

I don't want to speak on the Evergreen swimmers because I have yet to see any quotes or sources about their position. The police report mentions a coach confronting Colleen in the sauna, and I saw an interview with a parent. I have no idea what the position of the individual students are, how many actually object, and what their reasoning might be, so i can't pass a judgement.

That Palatine student seems to have a real animus towards trans women. Based on your link, it sure smacks of bigotry to me. She's young, perhaps her moral reasoning will improve with age.

Deliberately acting in a manner that you know will make the people around you deeply uncomfortable when there are easy ways to mitigate that discomfort is not appropriate behavior. It is antisocial behavior. "Existing as a trans woman" doesn't give her a pass on basic consideration.

I assure you, those white kids in the first desegregated schools were sincerely and deeply uncomfortable with the presence of their black peers. The correct response was, and remains, "too bad".

The comfort of the majority is an anathema to the concept of individual human rights.
