How does a "socialist utopia"...a place where all needs are met and no one goes hungry or homeless or without medical care...lead to pain and misery?

It just doesn't make sense.

The idea of Utopia is this perfect world whose major problem is that it cannot exist. Attempts to build utopias inevitably fail.

Actually Thomas More's original is actually on my "to be read" list, so I'm not sure what's in it, but I think the speaker got it exactly right.

My cynical take is that they went with utopia because they knew that their target audience wouldn't know what the word dystopia meant.

And it's still a gaffe if your opponents think it is. ;)

So put that line out on a mirror and snort it.

At one time there were noises in the GOP hallways about Sanford being "presidential timber". Then his little head overruled his big head. Now some unknown real estate developer gets about 25 times his vote count. Man, that's gotta bruise the ego pretty badly.

If no one goes hungry or homeless or without medical care', someone must have have to put with less of something. Imagine only being able to afford one super-yacht this year, or only having 195 times more income than the average guy? Can you imagine the pain and misery that would cause?
 
A speaker has been yanked from the GOP convention for anti semitic blather. Her bullhorn was a tad bit too loud.

Yesterday many of the speakers looked like they came from a talent agency specializing in Ayrans.

Wonder what their criteria was for being dropped from the starting lineup... Because the whole dang lot of them go under that same low bar.
 
Trump will also be pardoning a convicted bank robber and presiding over a naturalization ceremony during the convention as part of the 'entertainment'.

Mike Pompeo is breaking a 75 year tradition of a sitting Sec. of State not speaking at a political convention by appearing tonight (from Israel).

What next? Will William Barr be making an appearance?

Trump is also cheapening his powers by pardoning a convicted bank robber and presiding over a naturalization ceremony tonight by using them as entertainment tonight.

"Angel Mom" Mary Anne Mendoza, who was supposed to speak tonight, has been removed from the roster when it was discovered she tweeted an anti-semitic conspiracy theory from QAnon.

ETA: Marjorie Taylor Greene says she has been invited to the last night of the convention. Why not? After all, she's a 'rising Republican star"!

I...I..I just can't. I've been gone for 8 years and I just can't see myself returning to that place. I have my residency now and with all that crap up there... I'll just voteand keep it moving here South of the border. EVeryday is the craziest day ever until the next one.

Wasn't Trump/RW media/the White House screaming last week that the Dem convention was all doom and gloom... "where's the uplifting message, the good news"?
I won't watch so I'm asking... did they just do the same or similar?

I did see an article comparing the state roll calls... hilarious. GOP all boilerplate in front of a simple message backdrop, the Dems each highlighting the diversity the states bring to the union. And the calamari was a surprise... and pretty funny.

Because over a few hundred people socialism only works on paper.
IMO... it can never work large scale as long as avarice is a fundamental part of many human's behavior. Show me one where bully boys didn't claw their way to the top to line their pockets. Then it gets nasty. [emoji20]
