Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 24

"Monkey!" someone shouted after Donald Trump mentioned Obama.

Trump says "Let's be nice."

The crowd laughs.

"This could only happen in North Carolina," says Trump, laughing.

McCain would have stopped the speech, tore the person a new one, then had him thrown out. (Like he did with the "I don't trust him, he's an Arab" woman in that widely publicized incident)

Obama (if someone had said something equally offensive about one of his political rivals) would have got in one of those good under the Radar burns then turned it into a teaching moment.

Hell even Reagan and the Bushes would have, at worse, had the decency to ignore them.

But not Trump.

"Spygate"

There was no 'spying' going on. That's just another lie Trump tells over and over again that his idiot supporters lap up because they either can't be bothered to ascertain that he's never presented any evidence of it or they just don't care that he's lying. Personally, I think most of them just don't care. And that says so much about them.

The lying and trolling is what I'm the most exhausted with from Trump and his trumpkins. Every single discussion on Trump or US politics has Trump trolls trying to derail the discussion with lies, endless whataboutisms, insults, and all kinds of trolling. You also can't have a single discussion anymore without having to negotiate endless post-fact world lies, spin, and misconceptions.

Not listening to a word of it. Just following text news on it. I also no longer "follow" Trump on Twitter, so my Trump news is filtered through anti Trump people I follow.

<snip> And Trump doesn't have any real plan to make it better.
Yes, and to add to the dysfunction, this year the GOP does *not* have a party platform. So the whole lot of them don't have a plan to ameliorate the many problems facing the country. They just want the power for their kind of judges and socialism for Big Business; the rest of us can take the hindmost.

Now, I know almost nobody read the party platforms but at least they engendered some debate and put the party on record. The GOP knows they can't commit Trump to ANYTHING except his own good and that doesn't exactly read like a good party platform.

This is going to have to be an incredible convention for Trump or he's toast.
I'm going with the latter.

Huh? Jerry "admits" his wife had a fling? Isn't she the one who should "admit" that fact? And where's her statement saying they're working to repair the damage as is traditional in such matters, especially the political class. I suspect there's more rot yet to be revealed.

You need to catch up on the Falwell thread. He sat in a corner watching while the pool boy screwed his wife. And there are apparently pictures....

I'll never get how someone can give up a safe House seat to become ... this (whatever this is).

I have a guess. The House has 435 members so even those in relatively senior positions have considerable limits on what they can accomplish. Plus, they have to do painful fund raising 365 days a year. Now compare that to having A LOT of unfettered power to make things happen with no fund raising to boot. It must be a very powerful lure.

Consider Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III (:)). He had a guaranteed-safe seat and had been in the Senate for 20 years so had a lot of sway. He gave it up to be the AG.
