If Congress would just repeal the insane pension funding requirement - one that no other government agency has to do - that would solve almost all of the USPS budget problems.

The union does not support the overlarge pension payments, from what I understand. I also don't think any of the money was actually set aside for the pension.

The USPS delivers for Amazon, sometimes. They don't pay the same rate as I would if I were to mail something, but then they are buying services in bulk and work to integrate their systems with the USPS to make the whole deal work well for both parties. They should get a discount, in the same way that most bulk mail is discounted. It is actually very good business for the USPS and part of what is keeping them afloat.

Bezos owns a media company that does not kiss Trump's ass. Therefore, petty Trump is attacking Bezos, via Amazon, and the USPS is just collateral damage.

Won't that requirement result in a massive surplus of funds in a few decades? Free mail in 2062?

I happened upon a quote involving Melania back when she was known as Melania Knauss, a New York-based model. I don't have a link; I read this probably six months ago but it still comes to mind.

A woman who worked in the modeling industry -- not a model, someone on the business side -- said, "Yes I recall her." She said Melania was not top tier because, "She was stiff, almost robotic." That she went on to be fairly successful in what was essentially soft-core porn. Below are two images from her 'plane shoot.' (Don't ask; I have no clue.)

Can this whole episode get any stranger? Assuming we somehow manage to regain our democracy, can you imagine how history is going to look at all this fifty years from now? :eek:

She's always come across to me as cold and stiff, too. Certainly not someone friendly and approachable. In Mary Trump's book, she describes her one and only encounter with Melania. Mary was down at Mar a Lago to discuss her ghost writing a book for Donald. They were having lunch and Mary said Melania didn't say a word the entire time except when Donald mentioned Mary having dropped out of college and then lied that she'd had a "terrible drug habit she had overcome". Melania had looked up and said "Really?" Mary then explained that, no, she had gone back to school after one semester and she didn't ever take drugs. Melania went back to eating her lunch and never said anything more.

Sadly, Melania will probably be reduced to a footnote. A decidedly minor one, too.

Actually a good corporate manager with a willingness to listen to advisors, to make decisions based on facts instead of one’s gut, and to put the country’s interest ahead of his own might make a pretty good president.

Of course, President Trump’s idea of good business management is so twisted, perverted, and corrupt that the country was doomed from the start.
