Me too but felt like it'd look like bragging if I wrote that. I thank you for doing that in my stead.

Happy to be your surrogate braggart!

But I didn't want to be seen as bragging, myself, by not announcing to having already assessed all human foibles and frailties from the crib. ;)

216 new COVID deaths in Florida since yesterday, according to Worldometer; good job DeSantis!

Jagoff.

USA Today: Rep. Louie Gohmert 'can't help but wonder' if COVID-19 diagnosis is due to wearing a mask
... "I can't help but wonder if by keeping a mask on and keeping it in place, I might have put some germs — some virus — onto the mask and breathed it in," Gohmert said in an interview with Texas station KETK....

The congressman is not symptomatic, and plans to self-quarantine for 10 days, he said, at which point he should be "fairly well immune." The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it is still unknown whether someone who has been infected in the past can become infected again.
I don't think he understands the concept of self-quarantine 'after exposure' not 'after one is infected'. :boggled:

Gohmert participated in the questioning of Attorney General Bill Barr during a Tuesday House Judiciary Committee hearing and the two were seen walking in close proximity without masks in a video from The Hill that was posted on Twitter. Barr will be tested for the coronavirus after interacting with Gohmert, the Justice Department said. ...
:D

Oh, I mean, that's unfortunate.

Gohmert says that wearing a mask caused him to catch the coronavirus.

I would provide a link but I closed it in disgust, but yes he really did say that.

He looks pretty healthy right now.

Its a district so red they keep electing the dumbest man in congress not named Steve King.
No worries, he'll take chloroquine and it'll fix him right up.

That still doesn't explain why he wins primaries. There must be non-crazy Republicans who could run against him.

It's hard to primary an incumbent. Tends to happen when the new candidate is more extreme than the incumbent. That's hard to do with someone like Gohmert who is already the TEA Party candidate.

It's true, Congressman Louie Gohmert thinks wearing a mask -- which he didn't do very often -- may have caused him to become infected with coronavirus. That "some germs" might have attached themselves to the mask and then 'Louie' breathed them in. (AKA as - "You can't make this stuff up.") From a USAToday news report-
Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Republican from Texas who tested positive for COVID-19 Wednesday, suggested that he may have contracted the virus because he was wearing a mask, despite health guidance encouraging mask-wearing to reduce the spread. "I can't help but wonder if by keeping a mask on and keeping it in place, I might have put some germs — some virus — onto the mask and breathed it in," Gohmert said in an interview with Texas station KETK. Know how Gohmert found out? He was going to fly to Texas with trump on Air Force One. Apparently you don't get too close to trump unless you have been tested for -- and been certified negative -- for Covid-19 virus. I guess the results come back pretty quickly, too.
Gohmert tested positive Wednesday morning at the White House, he said, ahead of a scheduled trip accompanying President Donald Trump to Texas on Air Force One.

As with Steve King, it'd take an effort by the party to unseat him. Apparently he doesn't embarrass them as much. The district was heavily gerrymandered by Tom DeLay.
Does he generate more in contributions than it takes to win in that district, thus allowing transfers to the party to support other districts?

If so, they will suppress challenges. The local incumbent here actually paid a primary challenger to throw the race about a decade back.

Mmm.

Now that there's been a chance for results to come in so we can look at the US numbers... when the information started being funneled through the HHS, something rather suspicious seems to be happening (as expected).
I have a lot of respect for epidemiologists. I would hope they would rebel against bad data, as should other countries if they think the U.S. is manipulating the numbers. It's time to fire up the Freedom of Information Act, insisting that the raw data should be available to the public in real time. I imagine it will take some ferocious digging, but I have some faith in the Deep State and maybe even journalists.

You must have accurate numbers if the concept of public health is to mean anything at all. Hopefully if HHS officials are cooking the books they will prove to be totally incompetent at it - IOW exactly what one would expect from Trump toadies.

ETA: There might be a Sharpie meme to be had there.

According to Worldometer, Texas suffered 313 COVID deaths since yesterday. So I guess folks are dying there to help save the economy for Lt. Governor Dan Patrick's grandkids.

Hmm, I wonder if Democrats have recruited any Republican ringers.
Not quite the same, but I recall an article in The Intercept a while back showing the party backing primary candidates who raise huge sums, but have been perennial general election losers for several cycles.

They fold up shop, transfer their funds to a smattering of connected committees and go on home.

But alas, we're wandering off a bit :9.
