Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 23

Trump deploying federal agents to Chicago. THis is going to turn out well.

If the protesters had any sense at all, they would just go away for a while. Trump desperately wants there to be conflict; there is no reason to enable that.

One Trumpster responded at some point that they will not wear a mask and reduce their "oxygen level"! They are very disappointed that Trump is wearing a mask and playing into the hands of the deep state, though some speculate that he's using reverse psychology to stop libs from wearing them.

Much as I try to steer clear of CTs, the baseball bat wielding idiots that disrupted a peaceful protest yesterday in Seattle sure did look seriously out of place.

Egged on by or outright right-wingers is certainly possible.

So I don't think Portland protesters are going to just go away.

Y'all remember Mr Yoo?

I'm thinking there are two options here.

1) He's going to try to disqualify election results. I don't think that's going to fly. Not with the current SCOTUS.

2) He's desperately trying to distract from his abject failures. This is more like it.

Instead of trying to create "healthcare plan" by EO, why doesn't he actually come up with a healthcare plan and present it to congress? He's only had 3.5 years.

I mean, this is a great time to put Nancy Pelosi on the spot. If you have a great plan that will cover everyone for cheaper, like you claimed, you have her in a bind. Of course, if all you have is "repeal ACA" then all you can do is bluster.

Or maybe they're playing 4D chess and trying to force the government into precisely that kind of over-reaction.

The today's day/date thing makes a lot of sense for those going to school, or working a standard 5-day week, or who need to make and keep appointments.

Back in 1999 or so, when I began working for myself full-time, I just stopped keeping track -- especially since I'm one of those who often works through the night and half-way into the morning before collapsing for an unknown period of time, only to repeat. My natural circadian rhythm is around 30 hours, I think.

When I got kids, everything changed again, and I always knew the day/date. After the kids grew up and didn't need me to manage their school activities, I went back to my old habits. If you catch me by surprise and ask the date, I either have to check my calendar, or mentally go back to the last time I needed to know, and count forward. I'm usually right, but with a margin of error of +- 1 day.

Time of day is completely different. I play a game with myself when I wake up. Before opening my eyes, I try to estimate the time. If I'm off by more than an hour, it's surprising. My internal timepiece is usually good to within a few minutes. During times when I'm awake and have had at least one reference check, I'm normally good to the nearest minute. Time of day can go awry during intense programming tasks, or a really good book.

President Trump was the big winner in the interview with Chris Wallace. He proved he could take the heat sitting outside for tough questions from Wallace. Lets see Biden get interviewed for an hour even in air conditioning. It would be embarrassing.

When I was a kid, you always knew what day it was, partly, because we only had broadcast TV. Oh, Monday is Man from Uncle. The Monkees are on the Saturdays. Now, we dvr just about anything we watch (that we don't stream), and almost never watch them on their actual "day."

Yes. It is easy for other posters and me to not know the date.

But keep in mind that none of us walk into the office is handed an intelligence briefing and other briefings that always have the date at the top. And when we sit down at our desks, none of is is given dated articles from world newspapers. And none of us is given a written copy a daily schedule. And none of us ever has to appear in front of legislators and reporters to sign historic documents that have dates on them.

On the other hand, does he really need to know the date if he has minions running hither and yon who are expected to know the date for him.

And while folks like us have to remember we have a doctor’s appointment on the 21st and concert tickets on the 24th, POTUS doesn’t.

I just realized I don’t know today’s date.
It's the 31st of June, Mr Trump.

It's not the "China Virus"

He's months late to the mask party.

He's only wearing one now because his poll numbers collapsed.

He will need a mask when he loses and tries to flee the country in disguise.

He's no one's favourite President.

Wonder if that will backfire on him with the 'I won't mask my freedom' types.

A (very) few of them, maybe; but the great majority of Trump's die-hard followers has always been the "America, **** yeah!" types who think that American exceptionalism can only be defined in terms of the shortcomings or outright villainies of other countries. So what he's done here explicitly now, and what he's been leading up to for awhile, with the framing of the virus as the "China virus," is to make it just the sort of "us vs them" issue that is the only sort of patriotism these mindless xenophobes can get, and will get behind. It's not about any lib-sissy concern for other folks' health, no, no- it's now about sticking it to the Chinese. America, **** yeah!

Believe it or not, there are people who think he's handling the pandemic just fine. Seems to be the same people who think that the case numbers are inflated.
Do they realise he is talking to the mirror when he is tweeting that stuff?

Patriotism has **** all to do with wearing a mask.

I was going to mention that same thing. I always knew what day it was by what I was expecting to watch (or tape) on TV that night.

Funny that today is a most significant date for me as I get to start collecting Social Security benefits. Some dates weigh very big in the mind!

I really wish that was true, but it's not.

At 3 pm today I realized it was Monday, but only because someone else mentioned it.
I knew it was Monday because we watched an F1 race yesterday and some webcomics updated, not doing so on weekends.

It's the 51st anniversary of humans landing on the moon. A date which will be remembered long after Trump.

John Yoo told Axios he has been talking to White House officials about his view that a recent supreme court ruling on immigration would allow Trump to issue executive orders that flout federal law.

In a Fox News Sunday interview, Trump declared he would try to use that interpretation to try to force through decrees on healthcare, immigration and “various other plans” over the coming month.

Constitutional scholars and human rights activists have also pointed to the deployment of paramilitary federal forces against protesters in Portland as a sign that Trump is ready to use this broad interpretation of presidential powers as a means to suppress basic constitutional rights.

“This is how it begins,” Laurence Tribe, a Harvard constitutional law professor, wrote on Twitter.

At some point he's going to need Congress to give him funds to keep the government running. I don't think he can get around that by signing decrees.

I dunno. Trump's gonna be remembered for a long time, for all the wrong reasons.

A lot of people don't know the exact date. I usually couldn't tell you the exact date without looking at a calendar; but I'll know within a couple days give or take. Knowing the exact day isn't really the point. The point is more that you give an answer that makes sense.

If it's June 2nd, and you say it's May 31, that's a correct enough answer. You're off by a couple days, but you are roughly correct. But if you say you know it's June, but think it's the 28th, that may indicate a problem. If you say it's October 20th, then that's a big flag - you have no concept of what the actual date is.

Yes, this is one of the questions with some wobble.

Wrong answers would be kinda obvious. "It's my birthday" or "Christmas" are common, or just not having a clue whether it's Summer or Winter while facing a window outside. Covering, which is a strategy that works outside the clinical context, but not on a test like this. eg: "Oh, you know, hahaha, stop being silly."

Seniors not knowing it's the weekend is considered quite normal. Not knowing it's the 21st century is a fail.

A lot of patients are in beds where they have a whiteboard beside them reminding them of the date ten times a day, and then they fail the question when they take it five minutes later.
