Don't get me wrong; I too went through a phase where I thought I could project an air of learnedness by pretending to be objective and impersonal while I disparaged humanity as a species with sorta-sciencey-sounding criticisms that were actually just emotive baloney and special pleading. I hope this is all true. I get great delight in thinking of Trump being miserable. His walk from the helo after the Tulsa rally certainly supports this report. He looked totally dejected.

I think the Streisand effect is at play here.

Up until Trump tweeted this, I 1) wasn't aware that they were taking Wilson's and Wayne's name off things, and 2) the underlying reasons why.

Now, I see that: 1) Wilson pushed for racial segregation, and 2) There were multiple comments made by Wayne where he suggested that he thought black people didn't deserve political power until they were "educated", and that that it was perfectly fine to take Native American land because white people needed it and native americans were 'greedy' in keeping it to themselves.

Had Trump remained silent, all this would probably have passed quietly... John Wayne would have been "that cowboy actor", Wilson would have been "the First World War president who dealt with big corporations". Now, people might start digging a little deeper into their histories.
