Which is exactly why a lot of Americans will still vote for them.

Democracy is getting distasteful to certain people. Too many of the "wrong" people.

I am currently reading the book "SPQR" by Mary Beard, detailing the history of Rome, and I find quite a few parallels there. In almost all of their legends, Rome was founded by people from all sorts of origins, including criminals, slaves, runaways and some from all sorts of ethnic groups in the area. Some Roman officials had to remind their peers of Rome's multicultural beginnings when confronted with the idea that Rome should remain "pure" and "Roman".

Pedantic response. No, it's not. A knot (nautical mile) is a measure of distance. An hour is measure of time. So it could be knots per second, per hour or per day even.

But I give you that an aviator or boater would assume it to be per hour.

Sorry, Tesla, but you're wrong. The Knot is a unit of speed.

We shouldn't make fun of Trump for using 2 hands to drink a glass of water.
He held a bible the other week and the burns haven't healed yet.

I must take my medicine. I have been under the misapprehension that a "knot" was a single word describing a "nautical mile" and when people used the term as a unit of speed this was merely shorthand.

I was wrr...wrrrer...wr.wr.wr wr.

I was mistaken. :o

That is a truly excellent book on Roman history.

I began reading this book recently and the parallels that I see to Trump/populism are striking to say the least. It's not exactly the most recent scholarship on the subject, but it offers a fascinating window into the popular mindset of the time.

It's so bizarre to watch Trump supporters willingly attend rally's in enclosed "human gas" chambers where asymptomatic people can easily spread a deadly virus by means of human gas and droplet exchange. As we can see in the news most of them attend these indoor rally's unprotected.

People were appalled by the discovery of the gas chambers in Germany but Trump's "human gas" chambers are not creating much outrage. It's very likely that people will die as a result of infections spread in these rally's so I'm wondering how many people, or what percentage of people, have to die before Americans start demanding that Trump stops killing more of his supporters just to increase his chance of getting re-elected?

Hopefully Trump understands that if he kills too many of his supporters that he will lose the election, but who would bet on that?

This would sound ridiculous except that tens of thousands of Americans would probably still be alive if Trump had responded to the coronavirus threat immediately. We also remember Trump suggesting that people could possibly inject disinfectants or inject light into the body through the skin which is freaking insanity! Trump's delusional leadership has also failed to contain the coronavirus which is currently causing further spikes in cases and more needless loss of American lives.

I wonder at what rate Trump's infected staff at the rally's are infecting others? I wonder if Trump has invested in crematoriums and from his perspective things are actually going well?

121,200 US deaths to date and Trump is leading the intellectually less fortunate into "human gas" chambers unprotected. It's so sad to watch how many people are so gullible and attend these rally's and risk catching a deadly infection as coronavirus cases spike needlessly for the second time.

Many countries that have contained the virus will ban Americans from visiting due to the colossal failure under Trump's leadership.

America has failed under Trump as the world watches.

Nope. It's not an assumption, it's the only correct use of the word.

knot is only used as a measure of speed (based on the history of using knots on a rope... if there's any distance involved, it's a few feet between the knots)

nautical mile is used as distance, it is not referred to as a knot

ETA: sorry, I posted without seeing acbytesla's response above. ignore.

Tomorrow @SenatorTimScott and the Senate Republicans have a Great Bill, the #JUSTICEAct, up for a vote. Will be great for both people of color and police - in fact, has major police support. Rebuilding trust and keeping communities safe! Hope to sign it into law ASAP!

Wow, a police reform act that has "major police support." I think that tells you what you need to know.

But in a positive sense. You were mistaken very positively in a negative sense.

For non-sailors, it is a very common mistake. ;)

No, no, no.

That was the information you got. It was an alternative fact. Nonody knew that before you mentioned it. Look, squirrel.

Is James Comey and his band of Dirty Cops going to apologize to General Michael Flynn (and many others) for what they have done to ruin his life? What about Robert Mueller and his Angry Democrat Cronies - Are they going to say, SO SORRY? And what about Obama & Biden?

Wow. It's like asking the Colts to apologize to the Patriots for accusing them of cheating. Obviously the Patriots didn't cheat, because they won.

So far the administration is just getting their criminal friends off. If they remain in power it'll shift to actively prosecuting their enemies. Remember "lock her up"? If Trump is reelected they'll try to do so. They've packed the judiciary so they can get away with it.

I'm not surprised at all. The "conservative" mindset is one that denies reality that they don't personally experience or is close to. They don't believe that covid-19 is more than a flu simply because they have not experienced it or know people that have.

Already blocked by the Senate Democrats as being completely inadequate, as they prepare their own bill for tomorrow.

A Republican policing reform measure collapsed in the Senate on Wednesday when Democrats lined up to block it after criticizing the legislation as an inadequate response to nationwide calls for action to address police misconduct and racial injustice.

Senate Democrats denied Republicans the 60 votes needed on a procedural vote to begin debate on the bill, which was led by Tim Scott of South Carolina, the only Black Republican senator. The tally was 55-45. As a result, the vote failed, meaning that lawmakers will not be able to open debate, offer amendments, or move to a final vote on passage.

House Democrats are planning to bring a Democratic-crafted policing proposal to a vote in their chamber on Thursday and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had said last week that she had hoped to bring the Democratic legislation to conference with the Senate GOP proposal to reconcile differences.
