Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 23

As much as the small turnout delights me, I don't think we can draw any conclusions or inferences.

I think a good explanation really is the pandemic. Yea there are people that ignore science. Especially when it comes to their crazy religion. But my experience is even those people don't ignore their doctor and rely on faith alone to cure what ails them.

As much as these people see Donald as the second coming of King David, they also know he's not a doctor. Why take a chance?

Because he knows more than the doctors?

But was there a limit on the number of tickets? I thought that they were just issuing as many tickets as were asked for, and whoever couldn’t fit into the venue would be treated as overspill, with an extra speech and screens to watch. In that case, it wouldn’t prevent anyone who wanted a ticket in order to attend from getting a ticket and turning up.

And presumably if people had turned up but been unable to get in because access to the metal detectors had somehow been blocked, there would have been a nice big overspill crowd for Trump to point to.
This is all true.

They can be credited with goading Trump into bragging about it and setting the expectation too high.

But that hasn't stopped the fringe from declaring this another Soros-backed plot spearheaded by AOC (who's involvement was tweeting about it afterwards). If they keep up this frenzy, we might see an investigation into K-pop being a subversive foreign influence on our elections.

I've seen people opine that since the whole thing was organized on TikTok, which is a Chinese app, it counts as a foreign power meddling in American politics.

I guess people in other countries doing politics on Facebook or Twitter counts as USA meddling in foreign affairs? Can I report Norwegian politicans who use Facebook and Twitter for soliciting foreign powers to meddle in Norwegian politics?

Because he knows more than the doctors?

He thinks he does. Now if you're 60 or 70 year old redneck who loves Trump but still have heard the warnings that if you are in a high risk category, do you really not hedge your bets?

BTW, I just exited a Lowes Store where an old guy and his obese wife were wearing masks that said Trump 2020.

.....
A number of other bits of voting rights news at the link, too.

This is how the Repubs expect to win elections. Not by presenting plans and programs that appeal to the majority of voters, but by blocking people from voting against them.

Seems that Trump "RSVPs" didn't really matter.
Entry was not ticket-based, but first-come, first-serve, so there were infinite “tickets” available. “They emailed their entire campaign list the Tulsa invite, which also helps explain why a million people signed up. People click buttons,” former Obama administration official Tim Fullerton told The Washington Post. “As someone who has done this before, it’s something that happens.”

As much as I'd love to interpret it as a crushing spiritual blow, I do feel it's necessary to remember that Trump is an old man in poor physical shape. It's not unreasonable that it could be simple physical exhaustion after a long day.

Let's also not forget that he might be on a come-down.

Holy cow. He's got his tie off and it's just hanging over his shoulder, showing out the bottom of his jacket. He does NOT do stuff like that.

Aides were looking forward to the Tulsa rally boosting Trump’s spirits.

Am I a bad person for feeling a sense of schadenfreude right now?

I can't find it at the moment, but I saw something a few minutes ago from Trump's campaign manager Brad Parscale saying it did not work, had no effect. He also wants to ban the press from rallies because they showed empty seats.

I just noticed in a clip of his drinking water from a glass that he has his pinky under the glass. Who holds a glass that way? Maybe a guy who's not confident of the strength of his fingers?

Forget that last part, I asked my wife and she says she does that; then I just found myself doing it!

I was going to respond to that post and admit (only a little shamefaced) that sometimes I do it myself. On purpose!

In my defense, I began after a wet (from condensate) twelve oz. tumbler full of cranberry juice slipped out of my hand and shattered on the kitchen's tile floor. The broken glass everywhere was bad enough. I expect there's still some under the refrigerator. But cleaning up the cranberry juice was the real nightmare.

Memories of that ordeal are sufficient to ensure that I always have a finger under anything glass I carry around the kitchen. And plastic too, for that matter.

Last night at the Tulsa rally, Eric T called protesters "animals". Way to go, Eric! Daddy must be proud of you.

Finally, a statistic he might not be able to ignore, or fudge in public.

I for one hope he continues to believe his own stats ("96% APPROVAL IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!" -- soon to be 97%, I guess) and refuse to believe the polls put out be CNN and of all places, Fox News, whose recent poll generally agreed with CNN's. The "fake" one that CNN got sued by Trump for.

I hope he believes his own stats until Election Day, when he will turn to his staff (like today!) incredulous and say, "What the hell happened?" Then hell, he can blame anybody all he wants.

That tie's gotta be like seven feet long.
Until I saw that latest posted picture, I thought the other end would have been just over his shoulder. But no, it goes completely around his neck and matches the length of the more visible side, as you can just see the tail sticking out.

I'd say your estimate is correct.
