Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 22

Any solution is going to have to deal with the police personnel problem. You can write rules out the wazoo but a racist cop is a racist with state behind them. I think AT LEAST three things need to change:
  1. Police union power has to be throttled. As it is now, it is difficult to get rid bad guysand gals.
  2. Oversight of the police has to be taken away from the police. That makes so much sense it's a wonder it ever got to be the way it is.
  3. Somehow prosecution of the bad guys has to be taken away from the same DA who has to work with the cope on a daily basis. As it is, the DA's office is VERY reluctant to prosecute police crime.

Yep on all three. I've presented the highlighted one before. Like you said, how this ever was acceptable is nuts.

But aside from your rather lewd allusions, when the rioters, looters and pillagers turn up at YOUR door, how effective do you think philosophy will be to deter them?

Lewd allusions?

And, in general, what the ****?

I really don't know what you're getting at.

Lewd allusions?
So you claim to be unaware what "tossing off" means? OK then

When they come battering at your door intent on looting and pillaging, you will be sure to quote plato or aristotle at them. That will surely make them run away, right?

Because philosophy is just that handy in a pinch, right?

I was also confused by your reference to phiwum's "lewd" allusions. What it means in Ireland is not what it means in the US.

Here it means Definition of toss off. 1 informal : to produce (something) quickly and without much effort He tossed off a few lines of poetry. 2 informal : to drink (something) quickly He tossed off a shot of whiskey. 3 British, informal + impolite : to touch or rub one's own sexual organs for sexual pleasure : to masturbate.

Trump will resume his ego parties...er...rallies within the next two weeks. Knowing Trumpers, I bet masks will be a rarity. Let the Coronavirus infections resume!

Gotcha.

Not sure I ever suggested that philosophy has much direct, practical benefit. I happen to enjoy it.

I don't expect too many looters this week anyway.

To be fair, I watch enough UK comedies that perhaps I should've gotten what he meant.

The bit about philosophy is just a bit odd. I'd reckon that most professions don't prepare one for fighting back looters and pillagers. Would he ask the same of a pharmacist or elementary school teacher? (I'll grant a middle school teacher probably has relevant skills.)

I also am a fan of UK shows. I subscribe to Brit Box and Acorn yet I had no idea what he was alluding to. I'd never heard that term used in UK slang. Even the way you used "tossed out" did not indicate a "lewd" allusion, but the US meaning.

He just misinterpreted what you said due to his own culture. Fair enough. But perhaps he should have given some thought as to what the term means outside the UK/ Ireland.

Eh, we're often ignorant of the geographic scope of the idioms we use. It happens.

Anyway, that part of his post seemed like just a Beavis and Butthead type of joke. It don't raise my hackles. And the more personal part of his post was just an odd misfire.

In that case, perhaps someone should be gracious enough to acknowledge that?

So a tosser is the same as a wanker? Huh, I learned something new.
That's the form I'm familiar with.
Any version using tossing out, tossed out... and I don't and didn't make the connection.

Should suggest it to "Lost in the Pond" but it's probably a bit cheeky for his channel.

Now let's get to the bottom of "fanny".
Wait... may have to rephrase. [emoji1]

I like those videos.

To poke at a couple things...

Video of state troopers slashing and puncturing protesters and reporters’ cars tires goes viral

...Whoever ordered that should be immediately fired and all damages covered.

Fired? They should be prosecuted!

cited source said:
Anoka County Sheriff’s Office Department of Public Safety spokesman Bruce Gordon acknowledged the tire slashing and told news outlets: “State Patrol troopers strategically deflated tires [...] in order to stop behaviors such as vehicles driving dangerously and at high speeds in and around protesters and law enforcement.”

They slashed the tires of all the cars in a K-Mart parking lot. Every tire of every car.

“Strategic,” my aunt Fanny.
