I suspect these checks and balance could be repaired in under 75 days.
If Biden wins the election, the Republicans will work tirelessly to get those limits clarified and codified before January 20.

Although I fear the proposed law may say that SCOTUS is required to rule on the appropriateness of each and every subpoena that Congress sends to POTUS and his or her staff.

I agree. The Republicans will do everything they can to strip the office of POTUS of power, if Trump loses the election. For an example, one only needs to look at what Republicans did when they lost the governorship in Wisconsin, Michigan and (I think) Virginia.

Somebody please tell highly overrated Colin Powell that I will have gotten almost 300 Federal Judges approved (a record), Two Great Supreme Court Justices, rebuilt our once depleted Military, Choice for Vets, Biggest Ever Tax & Regulation Cuts, Saved Healthcare & 2A, & much more!

Colin Powell, a real stiff who was very responsible for getting us into the disastrous Middle East Wars, just announced he will be voting for another stiff, Sleepy Joe Biden. Didn’t Powell say that Iraq had “weapons of mass destruction?” They didn’t, but off we went to WAR!

Retired bureaucrats hate President Trump because he’s draining the swamp and ending the corruption that pads their retirement accounts!

I think what Trump really wants to say is that Colin Powell isn't "one of the good ones" anymore.

Ex-generals, including those who loyally served Trump at his request, but who now say negative things about him are universally “overrated.” Apparently it is the word some Republican strategist has carefully chosen to use to disparage ex-military without triggering the generally pro-military views of Trump’s supporters. And the irrelevant cite of his judicial appointments is clearly throwing red meat to this same pro-Trump base.

But I give him credit. Unlike Powell and Iraq, Trump is not going to be fooled by false claims that North Korea has weapons of mass destruction.

P.s. I can’t Read one Of these tweets without trying To Gain insight into Trump’s brain by examining his Use of Capitalization. This particular tweet actually has correct capitalizations as well as random ones. I must assume that ghost writers have been told to mimic his mad thinking by random Use of capTailS.

Colin Powell has served honorably served as Sec of State, Chairman Joint Chief Staff and National Security advisor. In none of those roles did he release classified information to the Russians.

He rose from Second Lieutenant to 4-star General in 21 years. In VietNam he received a medal for rescuing 3 people from a crashed helicopter after surviving the crash himself.

I could write a couple of pages of things that C. Powell has successfully done that D.J. Trump would be afraid to attemp. If you gave DJT a week to memorize the list of medals Sec. Powell has earned, he would not be able to.

I was having trouble finding words to express the disdain, disappointment, anger, and hatred I have for POTUS. I finally decided the only way to succinctly express it is to say:

I view President Trump with the same contempt that President Trump views the truth.

Fortunately, anything the Repub Senate tries to do would also have to be passed by the Democratic House, which is highly unlikely.

True, but they could try using it as a way to embarass the democrats.

I think what Trump really wants to say is that Colin Powell isn't "one of the good ones" anymore.

Actually, the usual approach to Colin Powell by the right is to criticize him for being the one who lied us into attacking Iraq. They know that the left holds him responsible for that, and rightfully so.

It's all about poisoning the well. "Who cares what Colin Powell thinks, he's a bad guy, remember?"

No, he just went before the UN and lied about the case for WMD.

Sorry, no, let's not whitewash things. He's got his non-honorable baggage.

Now, I believe he is reformed, but let's not pretend he wasn't wrong in the past.

What do Republicans think about [the Iraq War] these days ? And what about Democrats ?

This is an interesting question worth investigating/procrastinating from doing real work for Monday deadlines. In 2008 and 2012, Ron Paul laid some of the groundwork for Donald Trump. The failure of Bush's massive social engineering project also probably contributed to the rise of the Alt Right. Anyway, some polling...

http://pollingreport.com/iraq.htm

Pew Research Center. March 7-14, 2018. N=1,466 adults nationwide. Margin of error ą 3. Trend includes polls co-sponsored by USA Today.

"Thinking about the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003: Do you think the U.S. made the right decision or the wrong decision in using military force in Iraq?"

In 2018, Americans in general broke down as follows:

Right decision: 43%(!)
Wrong decision: 48%
Unsure/Refused: 9%

It really matters how the question is framed. Here's another: CBS News/New York Times Poll. June 20-22, 2014. N=1,009 adults nationwide. Margin of error ą 3.

"Do you think the result of the war with Iraq was worth the loss of American lives and other costs of attacking Iraq, or not?"

Republicans who say it was worth it: 27%
Republicans who say it was not worth it: 63%

They saw different results when Saddam Hussein was inserted into the question a year earlier:

CBS News Poll. Dec. 4-8, 2013. N=1,015 adults nationwide. Margin of error ą 3.

"Do you think removing Saddam Hussein from power was worth the loss of American life and other costs of attacking Iraq, or not?"

Republicans who say it was worth it: 56%
Republicans who say it was not worth it: 32%

We know people generally fall in line. Democrats are OK with Barack Obama, their God, drone-killing people. Republicans who supported a mandate for health-care are against it when Barack Obama, Satan himself, proposes such a policy.

Given the distance of time, Trump Republicans can tell themselves they supported the war because the Deep State misled them. If they become a more interventionist party, they can say the war failed because Iraqis suck, or Democrats undermined it, or we've learned lessons from it so whatever invasion we now want will go as planned.

After speaking with Putin very early this week, Trump ordered 9,000 US NATO troops out of Germany.

Establishment politicians of both parties tend to like endless wars. It is the product of the military–industrial–congressional complex (MICC). Neoconservatives caused the Iraq fiasco and have been making inroads into the Democratic Party. They hate Trump's opposition to endless wars. If this was an important issue for you last time, you had to vote for Trump instead of Hillary.

Trump just threatened tariff on EU cars unless they drop one on lobsters. He complained Canada doesn't face EU tariffs on lobsters.

Canada has trade deal with EU. US doesn't.

I think there's a decent chance the Democrats will gain control of the Senate in November. That would help immensely. We'll have to look out for the midterms though. Between Trump and Covid-19, things are likely to be in a mess for the next couple of years, and the Repubs will certainly be trying to blame the Democrats for all of it.

An even more scary thought. If Trump loses in November, which I now think is very likely, he will be eligible to run in 2024.
