The Trump Presidency: Part 21

And here is something to consider. I first saw mention of this on a Facebook page I've been following for some astute political and historical observations the last few months.

Yeah, that's good.

You want to lead with your strongest marks of credibility like that.

Solid play!
But then, take a look at the list of people who made unmasking requests for a name that turned out to be Flynn:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/re...-officials-who-sought-to-unmask-michael-flynn

As you even noted, when requests are made for unmasking, the identity of the person being unmasked is not yet known.

That's why they request the unmasking.

For someone so concerned with "timelines" I'd think that's a rather embarrassing mistake to make.

I hope you feel better soon.

I heard a clip on the radio of a Fox News host trying to get someone to chime in on all the Obamagate crimes. That person pointed out that everything Trump's people are accusing Obama of doing is everything they claim a president has the authority to do.

Thank you to @foxandfriends for covering, supremely, the greatest political scandal in the history of the United States, OBAMAGATE. Fake News @CNN and Concast’s own MSDNC are only trying to make their 3 year Con Job just go away. They are embarrassed and don’t know what to do....

....Likewise, the @nytimes and @washingtonpost are a disgrace to journalism. They are all Fake News, and they know it better than anyone else. History is unfolding, and it is not a pretty picture for “journalism”.

Found the clip I mentioned earlier:

"To be clear, and this is using the words of President Trump and his lawyers over the last three years, any sitting president can get any classified information they want. According to Donald Trump they can launch any investigation they want, they can tell the FBI only to pursue particular individuals, This is not me saying it, this is Donald Trump saying it for three years. This was their argument during the Mueller probe. This was their argument during the impeachment investigation, that the President has this kind of authority,"

“Sally Yates first learned about the Flynn wiretapping from no less than President Barack Obama in a Jan. 5, 2017, Oval Office meeting.
At least one of the unmaskers must have told Mr. Obama.”

Exactly. Cautiously pursuing evidence through the correct legal channels that a hostile foreign country has been secretly and illegally coordinating with individuals in a USA presidential campaign is treason! Extorting the head of a foreign country to publicly announce an investigation into the son of your chief political reveal, with no evidence of wrong-doing, is perfectly legitimate and just indicates your intense personal commitment to fighting corruption throughout the world.
Trump must have special fire-proof trousers.

Trump says or does on average several times a week things that would have destroyed any previous precidency. The basic thing that is sickeningly wrong is not Trump but the fact that he has 44% approval rating even now. The USA is not the country it used to be, it's rotting inside.

I know it's not Texas, but there a woman was sentenced to FIVE YEARS as a result of unknowingly casting an illegal vote. I'm not going to argue that that is any form of justice but if Trump knowingly illegally registered in Florida, then he should be subject to the same level of "justice".

Slight derail: I get tired of people pulling this case out to tarnish our great state without going a step further to point out that she was also black. Context people. Context.

Normally I'm not a big fan of hackers breaking into computer systems, but here I may make an exception:

From: Business Insider
A hacker group that stole 756 gigabytes of data from one of the top US entertainment law firms doubled its ransom to $42 million and threatened to release "dirty laundry" on President Donald Trump if the money is not paid...

(Note that it is quite possible that this is some sort of bluff, and that the hacker group doesn't have information on Trump, since he wasn't a client of the law firm mentioned.)

So many little ironies here...
- That Trump benefited from Hacking in 2016, but might be harmed by it in 2020
- That Trump has spent much of his term denigrating the FBI, which he may need now to investigate the hacking.

After writing that, I found this little gem:

Notice how he's riffing on the CT claims put out by the mainstream Trumpistas, but he's broadening the claim. He doesn't use the narrowly-constructed claim they used, "proof of Russia-Trump collusion". That's a much narrower claim than Bubba's "saw no evidence of Russian collusion". In fact, Bubba's is factually wrong. Almost all of them make the point that they did, in fact, see evidence of collusion between the Russians and certain members of the Trump team. But either he didn't notice he was making a broader claim, or he doesn't even realize that this is what he did.

But it was a near-certainty that the less intelligent Trump supporters would make exactly this mistake, and Trump's team was counting on this.

This is exactly the point of all Trump's tweet storms. He inundates his followers with repeated claims and backs them up with re-tweets of those who support them. He makes claims that evidence exists that he's seen but very rarely provides the actual proof. And when he does, it's usually taken our of context or greatly exaggerated. Or its 'coming'. His supporters see this as proof that Trump is right no matter how ridiculous his claims. Trump is king of the tactics of "The Big Lie" and "Repeat a lie often enough and it will become true." His base is more than willing to fall for them. In fact, they want to because it supports their bias.

ETA: I also want to recognize your effort at tracking this down. Excelllent job.

That's how Fox News built their whole dishonest empire.

They would have their opinion shows just... make stuff up and then have their news shows report on the "Controversy" via a lot of "People are talking..." doublespeak.

So Hannity would "opine" on his show that Obama bites the heads of Kittens and then the 6 O'Clock News on Fox would "report" the "fact" that "People are asking, does the President Bite the Heads off of Kittens? Why won't Obama answer these charges?" and give the whole thing an air of fake, manufactured faux-legitimacy.

Mmm, can someone with US insight explain to me what Trump gets out of this "OBAMAGATE" thing in terms of the upcoming election? Last time I looked, Obama was not running, and while it may reflect badly on the Dems, that is hardly news for his base voters.

Hans

Trump likes to present himself as a victim of the Democrats (and just in general). By claiming Obamagate, he reinforces the idea that the impeachment was a Dem hoax, Russia interference in the elections was a Dem hoax, etc.
And, as said earlier, it undermines Biden as Obama's VP.

This strongly resonates with his base and those who have a victim/paranoid mentality to begin with. For example, those who believe the gub'mint is 'out to get them'. Paranoia runs deep in the extremist mind.
