Michigan reverses course, requests anti-malarial drugs from feds to treat coronavirus. Second Democratic governor to change mind this week, following Nevada. https://justthenews.com/politics-po...ckpile-treat-coronavirus#.XoaCiWpyAi8.twitter

I’m pretty sure that this is a lie, and coming from John Solomon that would not surprise me. My recollection is that the Michigan governor wanted to ensure the availability of these medicines for people with lupus.

It's one of those half-truths.

Basically, last week (or the week before, I lose track of time) her administration sent out a letter saying that hydroxycloroquine should not be used for anything other than its approved applications, which meant not for COVID-19. Now, the drug is approved for COVID-19, so she's saying send us some.

It's not that she has changed course. Her course has been to follow the FDA guidance. However the guidance has changed.

Should we blame Trump for the national toilet paper shortage?

Like a lot of people, I assumed the shortage was temporary, based on everyone stocking up to withstand a siege. As I read more, I find it's not so simple. It turns out that there's a difference between residential and business production. With more people at home, residential demand really is going up, and increasing production capacity is very difficult, and certainly not profitable. The shortage is actually real.

In general, there are huge shifts happening in supply patterns. I was appalled to see stories about farmers dumping huge quantities of milk. It seems their institution customers' demand has gone way down. I assume that means mostly school cafeterias. So, while store shelves are running out of cheese, milk is being dumped into ponds.

I can only imagine similar stories are happening all over the food distribution chain. I'm guessing there are plenty of farms raising cows destined to become Big Macs, but with that channel experiencing much, much, lower sales, are they able to shift to the consumer market?

Could the government have seen this coming and done something about it? I'm inclined to believe it was possible. Someone on the staff of the White House task force really ought to be monitoring each of these vital consumer areas, and seeing if there is a looming crisis, and if necessary, throwing some money at the problem. We just passed a two trillion dollar stimulus package. Maybe the money would have been better spent giving away fifty million bucks to provide a new toilet paper production line? Or a cheese production facility?

Obviously, I don't know the answers. You need real data to get to answers like that. I just wonder if anyone, whether in the executive or legislative branch, is seriously looking into this sort of thing.

I think we need a 2nd task force assembled at direction of POTUS to look ahead to reopening of the economy. Made up of a nonpartisan/bipartisan mix of experts across industry sectors, so that we have their recommendations & plan - let 1st taskforce focus on crisis at the moment.

Trump right now is raging against the "fake news," blaming the media for panic, says everybody's getting everything they need.

ETA: Now claiming that states are demanding more than they need.

Translation: my businesses are losing money

Trump said he will not wear a face mask.

He says could not see himself greeting "presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens" in the Oval Office while wearing one.

He the guidance was "voluntary".

leading by example.

Why in the hell would he be greeting any of these right now? Are foreign heads of state really flying into DC right now to meet with Trump? I don' think so, Lucy.

ETA: I see Stupid in Chief just took another swipe of at the "fake news" media again at the beginning of his presser. What an idiot.

Of course not. The real reason he won't do it is because he doesn't like how it would look on TV. The fact that he and we would all be better off it he stopped going on TV all the time (and took all responsibility for addressing this crisis away from his sycophants and cronies, handing it over to actual professionals) is completely lost on him.

Another gem from the idiot in the WH from today's presser when he's speaking about the closing down of businesses:

"This country wasn't meant for this. Few were. Few were."

What countries ARE meant for this?

I had to mute it. He dropped the names of all the sports team owners because he had a conference with them, he's still ranting about "opening the country back up", blames the states for PPE and ventilator shortages, says the feds need to keep a supply in case there is a great need someplace...

He called Oregon, Aregon.

Now he's thanking everyone.

When he's reading he stops and emphasizes a word like he can now read that word. He's reading like maybe a third grader now, sounding out words like hydroxychloroquone.

ASIUI, they're using it but there is no actual evidence it is effective. I suspect they're using it in the hope it does help because it can't hurt. Does anyone have other information?
