The Trump Presidency: Part 20

How interesting, from President Trump's latest pronouncement:

"This is going to be a very, very painful two weeks."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52115584

Ignoring the fact that this represents the kind of U-turn which would give most people severe whiplash, it's another appearance of the "two week" time period. I honestly think that this is the furthest in the future that President Trump can possibly think.

I'd be interested to know how many of his "two week" forecasts have come to pass. Certainly not the press conference about Melania's immigration status or the middle-class tax cuts.

I note he was also flapping his gums about the 'flu:

"A lot of people were saying think of it as the flu, but it's not the flu," he said.

Yes, you - you numpty

Trump's impeachment had been over for months by the time the first case even hit the US.

What? The trial in the senate was held between January 22 and February 5 of 2020. The virus had hit the news back in late December 2019. The first positive test in the States was made on January 20, two days before the trial started, and the White House set up a task force on January 29.

Having said that, I rather doubt Trump was at all distressed by the Senate trial. Short of some sort of bombshell being dropped during the trial that hadn't been seen during the House inquiry, the result was a foregone conclusion.

Looks like Trump himself has said that he wouldn't have acted any differently had he not been impeached, as it was, for what that's worth. Entirely believable, at least.

Much as I'd like to believe the American auto companies are coming around to the 21st century, their response to the huge success and popularity of Tesla electric cars and quality Japanese hybrids has continued to be to make a few crappy knockoffs but make their real money selling ridiculous SUVs...though it's hard to blame them because stupid Americans still come out in droves to buy the gas-guzzling **** heaps.

The last time that Trump tried this, most of the auto manufacturers basically said 'No, we're going to stick with the higher standards." And then he threw a tantrum.

Because they want to sell the very same cars into markets outside the USA which have the stricter standards. And they are already meeting them. So it doesn't pay for them to retool anything to take stuff off.

Not that I believe for a moment this is Trump's idea at all. In fact, I strongly suspect that (as usual) he hasn't a ******* clue about any of this. He hasn't even got a driver's license and probably has never had to buy a car on his own. One of his buddy-buddy lobbyist buddies has gotten in his ear and given him a prepared bill to push.

Meanwhile, NYC just lost over 800 people in a single day, according to Norwefian news.

Is that supposed to be Norwegian news? But (thankfully) that figure is very inaccurate. As of Sunday night New York City's death toll was almost 800 but total, not just last Sunday. Over the next 48 hours about 320 more people passed away so this thing is definitely picking up steam. Below is a quote from Newsweek magazine's update last night (9:00 pm EDT):
The COVID-19 death toll in New York City surpassed 1,000 on Tuesday as the most populous U.S. region continues their battle with the coronavirus pandemic that has now infected more than 41,000 people in the city. At 5:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon, the New York City Department of Health confirmed that 1,096 people have died due to the virus, with 41,771 confirmed cases and 8,549 hospitalizations. The city's death toll was reported at 914 on Monday night and 776 on Sunday. Link

To nobody's suprise:

The Trump administration ignored a pandemic warning from White House economists who published a study estimating possible effects of a pandemic in September.
...
The study contradicts what administration officials have repeatedly said about the coronavirus coming out of nowhere and causing unforeseen devastation to the U.S. economy...

And keep in mind that that study was done by and for the Trump administration. (So they can't even claim its "Scare-mongering by the deep state/Obama-era officials".)

Upon information and belief, Iran or its proxies are planning a sneak attack on U.S. troops and/or assets in Iraq. If this happens, Iran will pay a very heavy price, indeed!

Congress must pass the old, and very strongly proven, deductibility by businesses on restaurants and entertainment. This will bring restaurants, and everything related, back - and stronger than ever. Move quickly, they will all be saved!

Heeeeyyyy, wait a minute! After all that whining about how the impeachment made it impossible for Trump to do two things at once, now all of a sudden, he can worry about the pandemic and Iran? Or is he ignoring the pandemic today?

This would not surprise me at all.
