The Trump Presidency: Part 20

My guess: Trump's campaign has identified Whitmer as a probable candidate for VP, hence the urge to take her down early.

She says she doesn't want the job.

Of course, a lot of people say things like that, before they take the job. Vice president is one of those jobs you aren't allowed to campaign for.

If she were in fact the VP candidate, I would feel better about voting for Joe Biden. She has done a great job with this crisis, within the limits of what a governor can do.

Trump's playing 256-D chess. Michigan is an important swing state. He's putting blame on the skirt governor, and the people will turn against her, thus delivering Donald J. Trump a beautiful victory in our genius Electoral College.

I just want to thank you for your service to our nation in these troubled times.

Trump Tweets...Lamestream Media should be forced to reveal sources, very much as they did in the long ago past. If they did that, the media would be trusted again, and Fake News would largely be a thing of the past!

He knows this is true because a lot people are saying it. A lot of people.

He never gives any specific examples as to the fake stories/facts he is referring to. Or seldom does. The few I recall were errors and quickly acknowledged and corrected by the media involved. See the highlighted part? Now Trump is a journalism history expert. I think he needs to retake the course.

It's all about social media and his base. His advisers, especially Brad Parscale, track how his statements trend. Trump is a man who has been widely criticized as being the biggest liar to ever sit in the Oval Office. Even Ted Cruz once called Trump a "pathological liar." Trump defends himself by calling his critics liars. Without citing evidence.

The sad thing is, he will continue to do this so long as his base accepts it. They're the ones who are enabling him.

It would be funny if by pushing for named sources he would be pushed to name HIS sources!

I would be all for forcing the media to only tell true stories. Especially if such rules also applied to politicians in general, and Trump in particular.

I can imagine a Trump speech where he was prevented from lying:

"Good afternoon ... ehr, early evening!
....
....
I believe Democrats suck.
....
....
I believe I'm great. .... When compared to people who are less great.
....
....
Uh, thank you, good night. "

By the way...
The idea that any major hospital would have 2 ventinators is absurd. I haven't seen medical folk speek out on that enough, but that's absurd.

Running operating rooms alone would be impossible unless the goal was to do, say, one major surgery per week...and even that would be pushing it.

Yes, but you can understand why they aren't calling him on it. They've seen how he abuses anyone who calls him on his BS, and don't want to end up on the receiving end of that. Given the choice of saving the US electorate from its own folly, or saving their patients, there's little doubt about which choice they would make.

Sucks, but they've got to play the game as it is. Refusing to play just means even more dead people.

Gotta go there. :(

Just read about Trump considering a quarantine order of NYC.
If it happens, it will be 100% politically motivated, he is showing his Base he si protecting all you Real Amereicans (white) from all those evil and diseased furriners with black, brown, and yellow skins in NYV.
Fascism is not knocking at our door, it has a foot into the living room.

Gov. Whitmer thinks it's more than talk:
President Donald Trump’s latest target, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, told a radio station Friday that medical supply vendors informed her they’ve been told “not to send stuff” to her state amid the battle against COVID-19.
Whitmer, a Democrat, didn’t say if the orders were coming from the White House or if vendors may have been intimidated by Trump’s feud with the governor. But she did appear to link the problem to the president because she told WWJ-AM in Detroit that she tried Thursday night to call the White House to discuss the issue.

She couldn’t get through to Trump, who was at the time trashing Whitmer — whom he referred to as “that young ... woman governor from Michigan” — to Sean Hannity on Fox News. “We don’t like to see the complaints,” Trump said in a phone interview.

Whitmer told WWJ: “When the federal government told us that we needed to go it ourselves [on medical supplies], we started procuring every item we could get our hands on. But what I’ve gotten back is that vendors with whom we had contracts are now being told not to send stuff here to Michigan.”

I love it. The Invention of Lying/Honesty for Trump. Very, very short speeches just like that. Or, he has to tell the objective truth.

"I'm probably not as competent as other leaders, so I think I'll just step down."

Relive those glorious days of yesteryear:

On Feb. 5, Murphy tweeted: “Just left the Administration briefing on Coronavirus. Bottom line: they aren't taking this seriously enough. Notably, no request for ANY emergency funding, which is a big mistake. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff etc. And they need it now.”

That was Senator Murphy (D - Conn).

Our "failing" governor, Gretchen Whitmer, was starting up her state task forces at the time.

I hear you. I despise Trump, but I enjoy watching him unscripted because it is entertaining and one of these times he may just lose his marbles and crap his pants on live TV or something. I can only watch in a different room as just the sound of his voice will put my wife in a bad mood.

Off the top of my head things I found interesting in the presser:

Cutiepie
Wiseguy
That woman in Michigan
Governors should be more appreciative to him. Scolding Pence for even speaking to them that are not.
Complaining that medicines typically have be tested in a lab first, but here we have this large group of people ...and what do we have to lose by trying?
Super rambling. Going on about the usual things and almost never answering the question asked. But way more than his usual word salads. Once he got going, you lose sight of what the original question was. I don't know how anyone could watch that briefing and think there is nothing wrong with this person.

Trump's thought process (occasionally he even gets to 'B'):

Trump Tweets

I am giving consideration to a QUARANTINE of developing “hot spots”, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. A decision will be made, one way or another, shortly.

Heading to the Great State of Virginia now, will be there shortly. The #USNSComfort is “loaded to the gills” at Naval Station Norfolk, departing for New York City this afternoon.

Can I get some context for this? I admit I've been skimming this thread as opposed to reading every comment carefully, so I may have missed a post or two that this is referring to.
