“President Trump’s decision to very early on restrict travel from China saved tens of thousands of lives.” @LouDobbs @FoxBusiness

Local cases of COVID-19 include local residents who had recently traveled to Aruba and to Paris.

Not Chinese people, or French people, or Arubans.

And let's not forget that the borders weren't closed to US citizens returning from China. Unless Covid-19 was smart enough not to infect US citizens the border wasn't closed.

The bummer part is he's still gaining popularity. In fact, he's never had this high of a presidential rating before if I'm reading the numbers right.

Whether he's doing a good job or not, America thinks he is as a general consensus.

I wonder if Trump thinks winning in this case means "getting things up and running" despite a complete lack of preparedness for the inescapable overwhelming of the medical system? Well, of course he does.

He will frame the "re-opening of America" as patriotism, thus labeling anyone with thoughts about that as unpatriotic. If it kills less than millions, he will label the cautious, the Democrats and the scientific medical community as handwringing snowflakes, and he will sell this to not only his base, but beyond. He will also blame the MSM for overblowing the severity of the pandemic and panicking the public. He will cement the idea that they are fake news and the enemy of the people. People will buy it, and are already buying it in fact.

Trying to figure out what Trump thinks is like trying to pre-determine where a knuckleball is going to end up in baseball. If you do eventually figure it out, you've already lost your mind from the process.

His latest tweet had a thing about snowflakes and needing cuddling puppies or some such nonsense. I don't know if millions will die from this, since the local governments are taking action aside from Trump. That's the real tragedy here. There's a fairly good chance he'll come out smelling like a bed of roses because of the local government saving his ass, and doing what's right.

He takes credit for a recovering economy he inherited, why not this? It's amusing that Americans recognize the underhanded techniques of the slimy, old-timey used car salesman, but they don't see it in this guy.

Actually, those guys make good money in almost every town in America.

It really is baffling. It's pays adage to the phrase "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." Trump is the squeakiest ******* wheel that's ever squeaked in the history of wheels that squeak and his grease is adoration from unsuspecting dopes. They just keep lubing him up...and now I just threw up in my mouth.

Oh, goody. A bit more of the damage done to our response capability has been found.

The Department of Homeland Security stopped updating its annual models of the havoc that pandemics would wreak on America’s critical infrastructure in 2017, according to current and former DHS officials with direct knowledge of the matter.

From at least 2005 to 2017, an office inside DHS, in tandem with analysts and supercomputers at several national laboratories, produced detailed analyses of what would happen to everything from transportation systems to hospitals if a pandemic hit the United States.

But the work abruptly stopped in 2017 amid a bureaucratic dispute over its value, two of the former officials said, leaving the department flat-footed as it seeks to stay ahead of the impact the COVID-19 outbreak is having on vast swaths of the U.S. economy. Officials at other agencies have requested some of the reports from the pandemic modeling unit at DHS in recent days, only to find the information they needed scattered or hard to find quickly.

The joys of outright sabotaging the work that had already been done? But why?

Juliette Kayyem, a senior DHS official in the Obama administration, praised the quality of the NISAC reports she received when she was at the department, and criticized DHS for being “singularly focused on border enforcement” under Trump at the expense of properly planning for other threats, like a pandemic.

“We should not be surprised that a department that has for the last 3½ years viewed itself solely as a border enforcement agency seems ill-equipped to address a much greater threat to the homeland,” she said.

Checks out, unfortunately. Still, much of the problem in a nutshell is summed up in this quote, -

“I’ve heard people say it’s a black swan. It’s not a black swan,” said one of the former DHS officials. “This is the whitest of white swans. This was absolutely inevitable, and the fact is we didn’t even maintain the capacity that we had or even the records of what we had done so that information could be quickly located and turned over to people who are making the critical operations right now.”

Plenty more in that Politico article, but... I think that's enough excerpting.

President Trump is as popular as he's ever been right now

(CNN)Here's an indisputable fact: President Donald Trump is as popular today as he has been since his first day in office.

In a new Gallup poll, 49% approve of the job Trump is doing as president while 45% disapprove, matching the highest his approval rating has ever been in Gallup surveys. A Monmouth University poll released on Monday showed Trump at 46% approval, again the best he has done in that poll in more than three years.

It's not so unpredictable if you recognize he announces what he wants to be true then attacks the naysayers and touts his greatness.

He wants the pandemic to magically be over so he fantasizes it will end and what better day to fantasize that end than Easter?

It's pure fantasy.

Incompetrump's magical hindsight excuse, they could never have really planned for the unknown pandemic.

That's true, as Laurie Garrett said yesterday in an interview, none of their pandemic simulations included a mentally ill POTUS.

An indication of how seriously Trump is now taking the pandemic is the fact that we haven't heard about him golfing lately. It must be the End of the World and we just haven't been told yet. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Trump possibly has declined so much that he can't play golf anymore.

Dementia Alert- Trump can barely read or speak w/o notes. He sways on stage. Panicked a/b the economy, he ignores skyrocketing cases & says shutting down causes more death than the virus. His desperation to “open the country up” means there will be full nationwide COVID-19 spread

I may have figured out Trump's desire to save the cruise industry.

They largely stiff the USA on taxes.
They ignore USA labor laws and mistreat their staff.
They are big on lots of garish and tasteless decoration.

They are his role models!
