The Trump Presidency: Part 20

I wonder if the catastrophe will undermine him or if the trumpkins will just lean even more heavily on him, deciding it's everyone else's fault and Trump is the only man who can save them.

Of course this has been the topic of recent conversation at my house. Trump certainly has proven to be coated with teflon up to now. But with the stock market tanking big time I think there is a real chance that his wealthy supporters, who think of him as a useful idiot, may start to have second thoughts. More importantly the threat of becoming seriously ill or dying is so emotionally primal that I think it is likely to cause all segments of his supporters to at least question their assumptions. Even the "want to be wealthy/wealthier" Republican leadership, who also view him as a useful idiot, may wonder if the "useful" term no longer applies. And the poorer fanatical supporter demographic don't want to die. Or loss their jobs.

But who knows? I've been amazed up to now as to the cult of popularity that surrounds him. So much stupidity...

I ran out of petrol. I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for a cab. My suit didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came round. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! IT WASN'T MY FAULT!!

The dog ate the stock market!

Aren't you supposed to put "Trump Tweets" in front of things like this?

Has he really been "Teflon Trump"?

Granted, his approval ratings have been frustratingly stable, regardless of the dumb things he says and does. But, his approval ratings very rarely approach 50%, usually being stuck somewhere in the low 40s.

Although given the possible toxic nature of teflon, I'd be all for having Trump coated in it.

Trump keeps saying he will protect people with pre-existing conditions from losing their health-care coverage because of them; recently, he was asked just how he would do so, since Republicans seem determined to do away with what is currently those folks' only protection with no plan to replace it. Here's his answer-

McCallum [question]- ""Because the issue of pre-existing conditions, you say you're going to protect them. But your administration is also fighting Obamacare in the courts. So how do you promise you're going to protect them based on that?"

Trump- [answer, for certain values of the word]- "That's what I said. We want to terminate Obamacare because it's bad. Look, we're running it really well, but we know it's defective. It's very defective. We got rid of the worst part. And that was a very important thing. You know getting rid of the individual mandate was a very important thing.
But we want to get something — if we can get the House, you'll have the best healthcare and health insurance anywhere on the planet. But we have to get the House back.
Now, that means we have to hold the Senate. We have to get the House. We have to, obviously, keep the White House. But, what we're doing is managing it really well.
Now, it's a case; it's called Texas vs. — you understand — it's Texas who is suing. They want to terminate it. But everybody there is also saying, and everybody — we have our great senator from Pennsylvania. Thank you very much, Pat, for being here. (Applause.) And Pat Toomey.
And — but, very important — and our — by the way, our great congressmen, I have to say, they were warriors. Right? Real warriors, in terms of the fake impeachment. I will tell you that. (Applause.)
But, so Texas is trying — and it's Texas and many states — they're trying to terminate, but they want to put something that's much better. They're terminating it to put much better. And they've all pledged that preexisting conditions, 100 percent taken care of.

So- there ya go, don't worry about it. The candidate who claimed in 2016 that "you’re going to have such great health care, at a tiny fraction of the cost—and it’s going to be so easy," and that "everybody's going to be taken care of much better than they're taken care of now … the government's gonna pay for it," and then had a Republican majority for his first two years with no plan to show for it, is now effectively saying "give me the House, this time I promise, for realz!"

And Trumpers will eat it up and beg for more.

When do we get the new batch of approval ratings? He got as high as 49% recently but dropped down to 47% after that. I'd be interested to see his stats now.

But we know, no matter what, he's going to have "95% approval rating among Republicans!!!"

Trump has been outwitting the Democrat Party and her allies in the corrupt mainstream media for years. He knows what he's doing with the Coronavirus. Now's the time to buy stocks.

Trump was blaring when the 2nd most recent Rasmussen ( a poll with GOP lean) poll came out with his rating of 52%, but Rasmussen’s more recent polls came out with him at 47%. He got quiet.

Moron doesn't realize that this is a catastrophe for US oil and shale.

Exactly. Oil below $40 is going to put a lot of companies in North Dakota, Oklahoma and Texas out of business. I'm from the oil patch in south OK and I can tell you my friends and family back there are already getting nervous about this one.

New poll results seem to come out multiple times per week.

The aggregate of his most recent polls have him at 42.8% approval, 53% Disapproval. So, still under water.

(Even Rasmussen, which is usually the poll most favorable to Trump, has him at only 48% approval.)

Trump now blaming the media for the stock market crash today.

I was reading this article about the market today

https://www.nbcnews.com/business/markets/dow-set-open-decline-1-300-points-oil-war-adds-n1152941

Here's the best part:

Aides will present ideas to Trump on Monday, after his return from a golfing trip.

Talk about fiddling while Rome burns....

BTW, he is scheduled to have a fund raising rally in Florida tonight.

So the market is in the tank, the corona virus is causing major events to be cancelled (the American Chemical Society just cancelled their national meeting in March - 15K people not going to Philadelphia), and all that is on the President's schedule is golfing and a campaign rally.
