2020 Democratic Candidates Tracker Part III

OK, so he said "“My name is Joe Biden, I'm a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate”.

That is the kind of verbal slip up I have been making all my life, even at a time that I was getting distinctions and high distinctions in a university maths course.

So what?

That slip is far from the only one, he makes them regularly now. And he didn’t before. It’s the change which is significant. If he had always made such slips, as you say you do, it wouldn’t mean much. If you didn’t previously make such mistakes and now you did on a regular basis, would you brush it off? Or would you go see a neurologist?

If Bernie had been effective at building a national following, McConnell's obstructionism would have been an asset he could have used as a selling point. Bernie has his niche voters but he has not been effective at broadening it. He's a good, small state pol but ineffective on the national level.

Honestly, I'm not sure about that, and even if it's correct as stated, I still don't blame Bernie for it. I think you're ignoring the reality of the extreme echo chambers we have today and how many in the GOP base simply refuse to listen to "unauthorized" sources.

This. Anyone who thinks Biden can win must not have been watching him very carefully. The guy is very weird in an uncomfortable way. Trump gets away with being crazy because that's his thing. It won't work for Biden.

Sadly true. I'm betting at this point that he tanks as soon as the front runner spotlight gets on him and he is more the focal point of a few debates. I get the sneaking suspicion that the best case scenario might be for neither Biden or Bernie to clinch the first ballot and then both drop dead (or maybe temporarily incapacitated? That better?) just before the convention.

Anyone have Al Gore's number? Asking for a friend.

Sadly, yes.

Presidential politics became professional wrestling four years ago, and Biden would be the guy with no nickname wearing a simple singlet and complaining about the rules as he gets hit in the head with a trash can for the second time.

Bernie would at least wear steel-toed boots and understand that the ref is never going to see anything.

Did Mitch do anything illegal? No? You mean he used the rules of institution to block legislation? Oh, so it was competition after all.

. . .

That implies he cheated or something. Did he? No?
I've got to step in at this point. The constitution says that the President shall have Power, .... and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint ... Judges of the Supreme Court, McConnell's Senate did not do this. Thus, I would argue what he did was unconstitutional. If not, then it was at the very least cheating. That is not simply competing.

He's of course exactly right, and I have been baffled for quite some time that "progressives" bought her shtick, with her complete fake history. I called it a long time ago that the "Pocahontas" nickname actually finished her.

What is that "fake history"? State two or three clear examples.

There seems to be many pitfalls ahead if Biden is the nominee.

I'm sure Biden will bring his customary grace, charm, and quick-thinking to overcome any obstacles. It's not like he's not famous for his polished speaking, swift wit, careful planning, and sparkling charisma. He and Cary Grant are that close! in age.

Trump is a classic case study for the phenomenon of psychological projection. He certainly can and does attack people for things that he himself is weak on. There was ammo last time too; it just didn't affect enough voters in a couple of swing states.

I know he can, and he will. I'm saying the second time around his con will work on less people.

Speaking of Trump, he couldn't help himself gloating over Bloomberg dropping out. Trump can't stop himself. Bloomberg still has billions of dollars with which to denigrate Trump everyday on big ads. Trump would have been wise to shut up. But nope, because he can't stop himself.

The boss move there is to decide silence equals consent and Obama tells Garland to go take his seat.

It would have kicked off a constitutional crisis, but really that was inevitable once the Senate decided to act in bad faith. Might as well have done it then and got it over with. Show some guts.

I'm not sure how that would shake out. Probably end in some compromise better than the clown show of a judiciary we are saddled with now.

Surely you are kidding me with this. Now that Biden is back in the limelight, the political prosecution of Hunter Biden will resume without a lost step.

I think people are misunderstanding me. Of course Trump will attack Biden on all these fronts. That's a no brainer. What I'm saying is we can attack back and it will stick.

Actually, I do recognize that reality. But the GOP base would never have been Bernie's target had he sought to widen his base. Rather, think suburban women. Rust belt employees. Small business types who get clobbered by health care costs. Ignore the bible thumpers and Deplorables.

You still don't get it:

Biden's supporters are embarrassed by Biden's gaffes.

Trump's supporters celebrate Trump's gaffes to show the liberals how stupid they are for caring about them.

But that's just Trump's base. The middle is less likely to be conned again.
