And, to be clear, that’s not pure hyperbole - I once mentioned to a Christian I was an atheist, and they responded, “So that means you worship Satan?”

Seriously.

In the South it's always that I've been "taken over by" Satan.

Right, no homeless out here today. Nobody scared to death of losing their benefits and weekly pay when they get sick.

My guesstimate would be that 100% of the people in this country who lose benefits or get sick don't starve to death. How many people do you know who have starved to death because they have no access to food? Food is everywhere in this country and human nature takes care of the rest.

Supposedly the death rate from lack of access to food is 0.64 people per 100,000. While that may be better than many 3rd world countries, it is still worse than countries like Canada, the U.K., Germany, Spain, etc.

So yes, people do "starve to death" in the United States.

And even if people don't actually die from lack of food, limiting access to food can still be problematic...In kids, it can affect their development (leading to poor school performance, depressing their potential future income). In adults, it can lead to medical conditions caused by improper nutrition (such as diabetes), as people may be able to afford enough calories to survive but still lack certain nutrients.

Ah Conservatives, nothing is a problem until it literally kills you.

Hunger is a very real, objective problem for 41 million Americas.

"Yeah but did you die?" is a rather heartless way to respond to it.

Is not letting people "starve to death" the only duty a society owes its most vulnerable citizens?

I wonder how many votes Bloomberg could get if he pledged some of his billions to containing coronavirus in the US.

I think that is really hard to do as an individual. Even people who hate the government getting involved in their medicare know that the CDC is the right entity to trust with managing the zombie apocalypse.

"What does not kill you makes me wronger."

I hope not. Take a closer look at Steyer.
For gawd's sake why? He's going nowhere. He'll get no delegates out of the primary process and he has no built-up support among the super delegates. What's his path to victory?
*** Disclaimer - Back of the envelope math is mine, possibly not 100% accurate.

Steyer spent $3 million on TV, and $1 million on Facebook in Nevada. Between outdoor (billboards etc.) , email, events, etc., I'm guessing that another $2.5 million in Nevada spending is realistic, making his total spend in that state equal around $6.5 Million.

He received 650 votes in the caucuses. That's $10,000 per vote.

Hillary Clinton received around 17 million votes in the primaries in 2016. So, at his current pace, Steyer needs a paltry $170 Billion to garner the Democratic nomination. Maybe another half a trillion to win the general.

Biden misspoke, it was Winnie Mandela he was close to.

Her hair smelled so clean, so fresh.

You have an invalid assumption in your math. $ spent to votes is not a linear function.

So that's your criterion for a viable nutrition system: Nobody dies of starvation.

That's just sick.

Here's why Bernie scares the **** out of me:

So, here's what we now know about Sanders' plans for America:
1) He isn't sure how much they will cost.
2) He isn't totally sure how he will pay for them.
3) It's likely they will be paid for by an increase in taxes on the middle class.

He's providing political science students with the perfect example of how to lose an election. Can you imagine what the GOP election machine would do with an estimated cost of, maybe, $60 Billiion. I firmly believe the Dems cannot afford Bernie.

You can allocate $60 billion to a defence project and no one asks this question or gets scared. What did Trump’s tax break cost? One-and-a-half trillion dollars?

You are right of course; each incremental vote over the 15-20% threshold that Bloomberg is buying probably costs double or triple the $10,000. [emoji854]

I was being a wee bit sarcastic, in case that wasn’t clear. Steyer’s campaign is now and has always been dead. He couldn’t get elected with $1 trillion.

Given the costs of healthcare, these billionaires would do better to just offer people free healthcare out of their own pockets and support an electable candidate at this point. That is, if they were sincere about their intentions to better the country and not just power-hungry politicians.

At least the Fundamentalist portion would probably think of them as "so called atheists". Those types tend think that no one really disbelieves, they are just mad at God.

That was pretty much what Oprah thought. I don't watch Oprah, it was just the Youtube clip of the one time she had atheists on her show. She had a hard time grasping the concept. Or she want to file it away as something less unpleasant.

Hard to believe there are millions of suckers out there who think all they have to do is vote for Comrade Bernie and everything will be free.

Hard to believe there's any one gullible enough to believe the Fox News Propaganda that the only reason people vote for Bernie is to get free stuff.
