I am pleased to announce that our highly respected Ambassador to Germany, @RichardGrenell, will become the Acting Director of National Intelligence. Rick has represented our Country exceedingly well and I look forward to working with him. I would like to thank Joe Maguire....

....for the wonderful job he has done, and we look forward to working with him closely, perhaps in another capacity within the Administration!

****.
Another Rapture/Apocalypse religious fanatic in a key position.

I find it odd considering the election is upcoming. If I were an incumbent president I'd be avoiding any actions that look controversial or iffy until after the election. But I'm very different from Trump. Either he's got some cunning scheme at work or is just that stupid/crazy. I'm getting tired of having to guess between those two possibilities. It seems to boil down to those a lot of the time!

Try my solution: It's stupid/crazy until proven otherwise. It's an especially attractive solution since no proof to the contrary is ever provided. :)

I'm still confused: Who is he talking to? The cheering MAGA crowd don't understand all this and don't give a damn, the'll vote for him no matter what. The intelligent republicans (oh, sure, there are such people) do, but don't give a damn. The intelligent Dems do, but don't give a damn. The Dem simple folks don't, and don't give a damn, they vote foe anybody who is not Trump.

What is the purpose of all this?

Hans

Here's my guess: Talking points for Fox and the YUGE right-wing talk radio show hosts so they can keep up the incessant drum of how bad the opposition is. There's evidence this works.

And plenty of people who aren't Trump supporters have been saying for a long time that the original sentence was excessive.

Zig, be careful!! You're actually starting to talk like Trump. We can't afford to lose you down the rabbit hole of Trumpism!!

If you are worried about excessive sentences, advocate for more Criminal Justice Reform.
Don't pick on a case-by-case basis.

If these White, Rich guys got excessive sentences, think what the rest of society are getting.

There's definitely been a modest narrowing of Trump's approve/disapprove. It might be noteworthy because it has been so oddly stable.

If you really want perspective on Missouri Medicaid, consider this: the current MO Medicaid eligibility rules for a custodial parent are that they can't make more than $301 a month. A month. Because that will make them too wealthy to qualify for state-funded medical insurance.

That's ten bucks a day. If you make ten bucks a day and have custody of a child you are considered rich enough to afford private health insurance here.

From what I see it is slightly below 150% of the federal poverty level which looks like around 1400 times 1.5 per month for a parent and one child

Mini Mike Bloomberg’s debate performance tonight was perhaps the worst in the history of debates, and there have been some really bad ones. He was stumbling, bumbling and grossly incompetent. If this doesn’t knock him out of the race, nothing will. Not so easy to do what I did!

The best thing Bloomberg can do for the Democrats besides giving them money is to act as a rodeo clown to distract Trump's BS while serious candidates move on. That is not to say this is how it will work out. Just how it should work out.

@JRubinBlogger (Jennifer Rubin), the wacko “conservative” of the @washingtonpost, must learn how to spell the name Bloomberg before it is too late & he is gone!

No, to do what Trump did he would also need to brag about sexually assaulting women.

I think it could hurt him if they play up the wealth angle.

After all, at least some of Trump's rhetoric is based on the "I'm an outsider against the elites" concept. Seeing a bunch of rich people released from jail might dig into that.

By the way, this poll was taken early last year (before Pardon-Pallooza) but it shows many people (including many republicans) would object to him pardoning people associated with him.

Seventy-six percent of voters contacted for the March 16-17 survey said they opposed Trump extending executive pardons to his former political aides. Only 24 percent said they would approve of the pardons....Seventy-six percent of voters contacted for the March 16-17 survey said they opposed Trump extending executive pardons to his former political aides. What skills did he learn from Reality TV?

Trump was not the creator of the show, and credit to making him "look good" belongs to the staff of the show. His 2016 campaign was largely a dumpster fire (with Trump making multiple gaffs), and he only succeeded through a combination of 1) Russian interference, 2) A favorable electoral college, and 3) an opponent who had been smeared almost continuously by republicans for years.

I admit my error.

There's no law that says a kid has to eat every day.

No but we do have reasonable safety nets to insure kids can eat every day. That is why there is the food stamp program.
A person with 2 children can earned around 26,000 and qualify for up to 500 in food stamps.
Pretty sure they also would qualify for free meals at school.
https://dese.mo.gov/financial-admin...n-services/free-and-reduced-price-information
According to what I looked up they would also qualify for Medicaid.
I am not saying it is a lot but we do have what I would consider to be reasonable safety nets. Maybe not all states especially if there are no children involved.

There's a point to that, though, and it's not an argument ad populum. If lots of people from across the political spectrum thought the sentence was excessive, then even if they're wrong, Trump believing the sentence was excessive doesn't put him on the fringe.

Nor is it some sort of abuse of power for a president who thinks a sentence is excessive to commute that sentence to something he doesn't think is excessive. That's the entire purpose of that power, and this case falls squarely within those bounds even if you disagree with his specific use here. If voters don't approve of his use of that power, well, there's an easy remedy: don't vote for him in November.

That's the number cited by my workplace in a memo. I suppose they could be wrong, but as they're a healthcare provider in Missouri with patients on and off of Medicaid I didn't see reason to doubt them.

I do, their numbers don't come close to matching multiple other sources I found such as my link. I think they're either wrong, or something got lost in translation about exactly what they're referring to.

Trump is doing that too.

Don't pick on a case-by-case basis.

Every president does. Do you think his predecessors refrained from using pardon and commutation powers for the sake of the principle you're suggesting? Of course they didn't. Not a single one of them refrained from picking on a case-by-case basis. That's how pardons and commutations work.

Missouri Republicans mistakenly kick 60,000 kids off of Medicaid, resist reinstating them

Par for the course, really, much as mistakenly might be a bit inaccurate. As would be kicked, honestly, give that it's more that the Republicans failed to do their duty to notify the parents and then blame the parents for not acting when they hadn't been notified.

It's Missouri Republicans. That is exactly how they roll: "It's the poor people's fault, not ours! They're too shiftless and lazy to follow simple instructions!"
