At the 'acquittal celebration' aka Prayer Breakfast today, Trump once again and unsurprisingly, revealed himself for the petty, vulgar, spiteful, and vindictive person he is. And some attendees applauded him for it as he used the occasion, intended for "the political, social, and business elite to assemble and pray together", for yet another platform to make nasty, hateful remarks clearly directed at Pelosi and Romney and to extol himself.

It's what they love about him. They will eat it up. This is his "we do these things not because they were easy but because they are hard" speech.

How any true Christian can support this lump of dung is unfathomable to me. Yeah, yeah, I know....it's because of his stand on abortion and appointing conservative judges. That's how they justify their support while ignoring his very un-Christian behavior.

And he does have properly christian views on women.

So if the stock market significantly dropped, how would President Trump blame it on the Democrats. It can’t be the impeachment. It can’t be the legislation they passed.

"Those extreme leftist socialists panicked the investors with their Communism&Immigrant Murderers&Open Borders&Drug Gangs&Sanctuary Cities&Witch Hunts&No Collusion!"

You know, what he always says.

It's not just Trump. The Republicans were blaming Obama for the recession of 2008 before he ever took office.

Or some other crisis no one can foreseewill arise and Trump will mishandle it bigtime.
A month ago, who wold have thought the coronavirus would become such a huge concern?
Big deal.

1. crisis happens.
2. Trump fumbles the ball repeatedly then tries to eat it.
3. Alternative media rewrites facts as neccessary for the trumpkins, makes out random liberal mistakes to be just as bad.
4. "Twump fixed the scary thing, all hail Twump!!"

Don't forget the comparisons to King Cyrus - a nonbeliever chosen by God as a tool to implement His plan.
At least the "tool" part is right.

In the end, they want to turn the US in the Republic Of Gilead or the US portrayed in Robert Heinlein's "If This Goes On/Revolt in 2100"...

I think he has a pretty good chance of re-election indeed. Corporations are people, money is free speech, much of the population is simply just surviving from paycheck to paycheck to pay much actual attention. Populism works, xenophobia works. Fox News and hate radio work like clockwork - and, Democrats are, tbh, pretty lame, overly reasonable and technocratic. The masses don't respect reasonableness.

And vredit Trump for the economic gains made during the Obama presidency.

Don't forget reversing policy when it's appropriate.

2009-2016: "The performance of the stock market has nothing to do with the quality of the President's economic policies."

2017-2020: "Look at how high the stock market is. The President's economic policies are amazing."

Wouldn’t that be, “we do easy good. We are the very best, the exceptional best at doing easy good.”

Ugh, that was tasteless and chilling. His sniffing was pretty bad over the radio; was he adderall'd to the max?

Define max! :D

That sniffing drives me wild. It's why I can't watch him do anything (debates, presentations, etc.). I just can't stand it after about 30 seconds.

I don't believe that is true. At least not totally.

Gallup released some polls this morning. Gallup is generally considered non-partisan and generally well respected and trusted.

- Trump's job approval, while still crappy, is at this personal best, 49% (https://news.gallup.com/poll/284156/trump-job-approval-personal-best.aspx)

- Nine in ten Americans are satisfied with their personal life, the highest recorded in Gallup's 40 year history. (https://news.gallup.com/poll/284285/new-high-americans-satisfied-personal-life.aspx)

- 59% of Americans say they are better off financially then last year and 74% say they will be better off financially next year. (https://news.gallup.com/poll/284264/record-high-optimism-personal-finances.aspx)

- 41% of Americans say they are "satisfied with the way things are going" which sounds low but is the highest it's been in 15 years. (https://news.gallup.com/poll/283958/satisfaction-surpasses-first-time-2005.aspx)

- Democrats and Republicans are equally engaged in politics. https://news.gallup.com/poll/267311/democrats-republicans-equally-engaged-2020-election.aspx

A lot of metrics for the old standby political chestnuts ("It's the economy stupid" "Are you better off now then you were a year ago") are in Trump's favor.
It is all being driven by the increasing deficit. If Obama did it they would be piling on. Trump does it and the GOP no longer cares.

There were two events -- one, the Prayer Breakfast where he said "I don't like people who use prayer to advance their position." And two -- The Acquittal Celebration -- I'm not sure what the official name of it was.

It was a few hours before I reheard this next thing and figured it out. Trump mentioned something about having "a printah" all around the office. I just couldn't parse what he meant from the context. Turns out he was referring to the people from his old game show, his former apprentices.

Or, in his own unique vernacular, "apprentii".

Every time Trump reaches 49% approval, the same doom sayers come around saying how they've been saying all along that Trump's gonna win. Then the approval ratings drop again, and the doom sayers are quiet, until the next time.

Look at the bright side: as bad as anyone thinks it is, objectively speaking, it can get much worse.

I just hope Cheeto von Tweeto does not try to goose his numbers with military violence.

Don't tell me let me guess:only solution is for society to have a complete collapse, and then the technocrats to come in, take over, and rule.
SOrt of a combined HG Wells (let a technocratic scientifically trained elite take over and you will have Utopia) and George Orwell (total contempt by Party members toward the "Proles"

As to populism works, seems to me Bernie is playing a left wing version of that pretty hard. I don't like populism of any flavor, personally.
