Seems to me that lying about a blowjob so you will get re-elected would be in the National Interest, too, according to Dersh's definition.

As is ordering hits on political opponents or blatantly cheating in the election, so long as you honestly believe it's in the national interest to get reelected.

GOP just crossed the Rubicon: they're going after American democracy itself. I just hope they don't make it past November of this year.

unfortunately I think they will. They control the elections. They control the government on both Federal and State levels. They control the police and the Army.

Our institutions have failed us entirely! Unless the remainder of the Free World saves us, we are in for a long, dark road. The last time democratic institutions failed so utterly, 20 million people had to die to restore justice and liberty to a fallen nation.

Trump claims at his rally that he chose to end the Aids epidemic and childhood cancers. Previous administrations chose not to.

Does he actually believe this?

He's used to talking ****. I don't think he does believe it, he just loves the feeling it gives him when he does talk **** and his fans believe it.

One advantage of federalism and presidential system is this is never strictly true.

Democrats control a good number of State governments, they have partial control of the Federal government and the police is composed of such a wide variety of different institutions controlling it is a pipe dream.

The GOP nominally controls the army but has the support of less than half the officer corps. In the meantime all the largest cities and the richest states are controlled by the Democrats..

Here's how the army breaks down.

Enacting a dictatorship in a networked system like the USA is difficult if you have the people on your side. Trump doesn't, at most he has the plurality of the plurality and the obsolete electoral system magnifies that enormously.

I really hope those QAnon followers don't buy and/or drink/use that stuff. Anyone promoting the use of it needs to be charged with crimes if anyone becomes ill as a result.

It makes a certain kind of sense that this would be fertile ground for taking advantage of gullibility.

Haven't officially crossed yet, but look like they're going to be soon. So far, it's been Trump's defense lawyers claiming that Trump is allowed to do literally anything he wants without any repercussions and that's been smacked down by the courts repeatedly. Now, if the Senate acquits, the Republican leadership will somewhat officially be saying it, too. That's if they acquit, not that there's much doubt that they will do so and show their utter disregard for the principles that they claim to value.

I would argue that, by not immediately and publicly denouncing this interpretation of Presidential Absolute Immunity, the GOP has crossed the Rubicon.

That's exactly what I meant. There has been no denouciation to speak of and it could be Trump will be 'exhonorated' (his claim) by the Senate by the end of the week.

There were reports of up to six Senate Republicans are open to voting in favor of witnesses so the show could remain open for a bit longer. 67 votes is a long way off still though. If Trump is not removed after defending himself with Führerprinzip, the GOP has crossed the Rubicon. Merely putting that up as a defence is grounds for impeachment or 25th Amendment.

EVEN IF McConnell found his conscience or thought about the well-being of the GOP ten years down the road, I very much doubt that he could convince enough Republicans to convict - the consequences for the GOP as a whole are bad, but far less so for the individual Senators.

Possibly it would, but the GOP led senate would be the jury in any such impeachment trial and presumably would attempt to block any attempt to implement the 25th amendment so we'd be back at square one.

Of course the GOP wouldn't apply the same approach to a Democratic President who was on trial in the senate. Any and all witnesses for the prosecution would be called and they would attempt to block any an all witnesses for the defence.

Nancy Pelosi wants Congress to take away authority Presidents use to stand up to other countries and defend AMERICANS. Stand with your Commander in Chiefs!

With Votes in the House tomorrow, Democrats want to make it harder for Presidents to defend America, and stand up to, as an example, Iran. Protect our GREAT COUNTRY!

Something just hit me that is scary as hell. If we should have a outbreak of the coronavirus, we have a POTUS and administration that just about the most unfit to handle the crisis it's possible to imagine.

And lots of cuts to the CDC. But that would be socialized health care anyway so right out.

* Commanders in Chief

It's worrying, in a very minor way, that Trump doesn't know this.
