Cont: The Trump Presidency: Part 19

So, I’d say it is a hodge podge....
(1) of not ever being exposed to other news sources,
(2) of being exposed to other news sources but discounting them because the president has groomed them into doubting everything other than what he says
(3) of not understanding how complicated many problems are
(4) of knowing that the president lies about some things, but believing that his underlying message is accurate
(5) of knowing that they lost a bunch of friends when they supported President Trump and knowing that they may lose all the rest if they turn away now

Obviously there is overlap.

I have never thought about #5 before. It’s clear the never-Trumpers will never welcome those folks back.

ETA
(5a) of knowing that they may lose a spouse if they admit the emperor has no clothes.

I'm a never-Trumper, but my Trump-supporting friends are still my friends. I don't understand their political views and I argue with some of them, but they're still my buddies, no matter how I despise their choices in the voting booth.

On the other hand, I have lost some respect for those of them (the majority) who have drunk the koolaid without reservation and buy the transparent lies they read online. I would also lose respect for liberals who lose the basic ability to tell a blatant lie from the truth.

But respect for one's reasoning and friendship are different.

I don't get this, I mean fine you like people who don't see white supremicism as a character flaw. Good for you?

- The Trump administration is threatening to end intelligence sharing with the U.K. if they allow Huawei to be part of their cellular infrastructure
Quite right too.
Why?

I am not necessarily saying that Huawei technology is a good option for building a cellular network, but unless that choice specifically impacts the United States' security then I'm not sure if the U.S. really should care or not.

US intelligence shared with the UK may be disseminated within the UK over cellular networks.

Would you let your friend be scammed without warning them?

There is a difference between warning your friends, and taking actions that will harm both them and you if they don't heed your warning.

I rather suspect that any sort of communication of secure information will probably require some sort of end-to-end encryption.

After all, even if they went with non-Huawei technology, there would still be risks of having messages intercepted without proper security protocols.

If a "national security" organization can't determine if a device is making unauthorized communications of some kind...

I still chat with everyone I did before the election. But I know more than a dozen people who deleted Facebook friends. I often hear casual acquaintances complain about how many friendships they lost once President Trump took office.

Thankfully, all my family and friends dislike Trump. Only my BIL is a conservative and he's all about the 2nd amendment. He's convinced if a Dem is elected, they'll take his guns away. He doesn't seem to get that there's a difference between taking away all guns from legal owners and limited gun control. It's the reason he voted for Trump. We just don't discuss politics.

Australia aren't using Huawei.
I think the worry is that the Chinese Govt could order Huawei to disrupt networks or turn them off.

So did he get all his guns back after Obama took them?

LOL. Yeah. The guy likes to go to the gun range and target practice. He doesn't hunt, doesn't think the gubmint is out to take away his freedoms or that there is a Deep State trying to wrest control. But he'll vote for Trump just to make sure he can keep going to the gun range. As if the Dems would stop that. He isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Trump is promising new dishwashers with more water so you don't have to wash your dishes 10 times,

Trump Retweets

Steyer: Democrats are going to destroy the economy in 15 minutes if they get in control.
TRUE. ....
Sorry, NOT TRUE.

Business Insider: The quote was taken out of context, however, as Steyer was paraphrasing an argument he said Trump was making.
Steyer tweeted in response: "Read the transcript. It's actually perfect. I said you're a fraud and a failure — and I'll expose you. Now go to bed."

Like Trump would know what the heck a dishwasher even looked like.

Also, many poorer folks would just LOVE a dishwasher, water-efficient or not. Right now many of them have been washing up by hand in the kitchen sink since forever.
