I do not agree, although I will admit that defining “defining characteristic” is needed if we really wanted to do this right, even though I’m not really up for it. So, continuing in a casual way, I’d say his most defining characteristic is his lying.

A lot of liberals get upset about the wrong thing when he lies. His lying not really so pointed, it’s merely that he says whatever will make him look good and others look bad, and if what he says turns out to be true, fine; if it turns out to be false, fine. True or false is not the point, so it’s not like he is trying to tell a deliberate lie for some pointed purpose, like how most people think of lying, I’d imagine.

Of course it's for a pointed purpose. It's always for his purpose.

Trump doesn't care if what he says is true or false. As long as it supports the narrative he wants to tell. I find this to be just as despicable.

I've known people who tells stories without knowing what they say is true or not. But almost none of them will keep repeating it after it is exposed as false. Trump just doubles down on the lie and then accuses the fact checkers of lying.

The question people must ask themselves. "Do the facts matter?" Is a world without facts the one you want to live in?

This is probably why so many evangelicals support him. Some people just don't care about the truth. They've chosen their side and refuse to critically examine a question that might challenge their world view. They will go "all in" on something that is demonstrably false.

I just can't.

If Democrats gain the Senate and convict Trump right after he's re-elected, that's going to look like they're just trying to undo the results of the election. That, I think, would blow up in their face. President Pence wouldn't likely be any better for their agenda.
Pence wouldn’t be good for the agenda but Trump could be. He could get his great health care passed. A Republican Congress isn’t going to come up with jack****.

If all of Congress turns Democratic and Trump wins - pretty iffy - the Dems should put impeachment aside and work to balance the courts, get health care passed, act on immigration etc. Trump has no core ideology so that could work.

I couldn't agree more. I'd like to add that I missed the days when we argued about the solutions instead of one side telling bald face lies about the facts.
In preparing for trumpkins, I have found facts to be useless, and ignore lists to be indispensable.

What has any of that got to do with delaying sending the Articles to the Senate?

Whereas now they are selling exactly the same narrative, and the Democrats are helping them sell it.

What leverage? What power? The Republicans don't want a trial. The Democrats are threatening not to let them have a trial. "If you don't do what we want, then we won't do the thing you are desperate for us not to do" isn't much of a threat.
I don't understand your POV. Pelosi said, and rightly so, she wasn't going to send the Articles to the Senate until the details of the trial were agreed on and for the House that means witnesses will be called.

The leverage is McConnell wants this out of the way before campaign season starts. He does not want a trial going on months from now.

I hope Pelosi drags it out. Trump gets more and more pissed off every time he hears about it and it isn't settled.

My fear is lying McConnell will agree to whatever and then not uphold his agreement because what consequences would there be for him if he did?

How is sending the Articles to the Senate to let McConnell snuff it out like Barr did the Mueller report OK?

Excuse me? What has this President done to advance Healthcare? Or infrastructure? Remember Trump was going to be the infrastructure President? Mexico was going to pay for the wall. They didn't. Tell me please, what are Trump's legislative accomplishments?

There is no trial going on if the Senate doesn't even have the articles.

How did Barr snuff out the Mueller report? That doesn't make any sense. Mueller presented his report. Very little of it was redacted, and Mueller didn't complain about any of what was redacted.

Transferring $2 Trillion from future taxpayers to the Rich.
No President in history has done such a huge wealth transfer in such a short time!

All of these things she had said was 47 years ago.
... We can't even trust our Attorney General

Yeah, they don't make them like they used to 47 years ago. Will there ever be another John Mitchell?

I agree that I didn't think someone as bad as Trump could ever be elected president. What pains me is that so many people don't understand how it happened. They are sure it is because those other guys are just so awful.

That about sizes it up.

The other day I read an op-ed written by Jane Lynch the actress calling Warren's remarks about Mayor Pete's billionaire wine cave fundraiser "class warfare". Now I have no problem with Mayor Pete getting money from billionaires as long as this is how the game is played. It's the same reason Willie Sutton robbed banks.

Lynch may be right that it's class warfare. But she's a moron if she doesn't think that war is going on and the rich are destroying everyone else. What's wrong with taking a shot at those killing the rest of us?

You are invoking the "You made me do it!" defense?
