The great USMCA Trade Deal (Mexico & Canada) has been sitting on Nancy Pelosi’s desk for 8 months, she doesn’t even know what it says, & today, after passing by a wide margin in the House, Pelosi tried to take credit for it. Labor will vote for Trump. Trade deal is great for USA!

Your original post said "you can rest assured that most Republicans probably despise him and are scared of what he's doing to the government."
So it's Republicans we're talking about here not how Republican approval translate into US population approval. You've changed the topic.

ETA: According to Gallup, the GOP has actually grown in membership, not declined.

Think you mistook me for someone else. ;)

Also, again, relative percentages. The question "Do you consider yourself a GOP / Democrat / independent / firetruck" does not translate to "What is your party membership?" (Btw, that poll shows the Dems consistently higher than the GOP, FWIW)

So tearing up NAFTA and signing it again is a win? There might be some tweaking on car parts and such, but manufacture will keep moving to Mexico.

Yes, I confused you with Babbylonian. Apologies for that.

No, it is not the same thing, but I don't think you'd disagree that when someone says they consider themselves a Rep/Dem/ Ind the chances are pretty damn high that they are registered as such.

I do not disagree that Dem membership is greater than GOP membership. However, Gallup still shows an increase in GOP membership which was my point.

Pelosi doesn't know what's in the USMCA? This idiot thinks anyone believes that? Just more bull feces spewing forth from the Liar in Chief. That sorry excuse for a man couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it.

The troubling part of that poll -- I admit I scanned it quickly -- is when the percentage of self-identified Independents goes down it appears the GOP percentage goes up more than the Democrats.

You know I'm not paying attention to the polls regarding the 2020 election because they really are meaningless at this moment.

Sure, some people lie to pollsters but not enough to give him an 89% approval rating (Gallup, Dec 2-15). His approval ratings have held pretty consistently among Republicans in the mid to high 80's.

I doubt they'll change their opinions much once he's out of office. If they did so, they'd be admitting they were wrong all along. People don't have a tendency to do that. In fact, people tend to dig in deeper the longer they've had an emotional commitment to something.

What I don't often see, however, is how many people who disapprove of Trump simply left the GOP so they aren't being counted as disapproving?

Veterans continue to support Trump (hell, they give him their Purple Hearts!) even though he had to admit to stealing $2 million from them.

No. The $2 million was a fine for letting his foundation collect and then distribute the money. The judge actually said that the fine would have been greater if all of the collected money had not gone to veteran groups.

Christianity Today,a magazine founded by the Rev. B. Graham, wrote an editorial saying it is time for President Trump to be removed and it is time for Christians to acknowledge he is profoundly and grossly immoral.

My favorite line
His Twitter feed alone—with its habitual string of mischaracterizations, lies, and slanders—is a near perfect example of a human being who is morally lost and confused.

You would think so but the fact of his overwhelmingly positive approval ratings among Republicans doesn't support that. You and I can see what his presidency is doing regarding executive precedent but they either can't or won't see it. They've gone full "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' mode.

I think you meant to say "they continue treating this situation like they're never going to have another Republican Democrat president..."

That's more a symptom of the polarized electorate than it is anything else. It's been building up for years, and while it helped getting Trump elected as a populist, come 2024 if trump ends up being a 2-term POTUS, history favors a democrat on the next swing and with the '----' show it is now... It goes down hill from here if nobody tries to fix that! I know Trump ain't gonna fix it! :V

I think we are talking about different things.

You think people don't lie to pollsters? I think the second Trump is out of office we'll see what Republicans really think of him. As it is, I think they've decided "in for a penny, in for a pound" and won't utter a harsh word against him until they've gotten everything they can out of his presidency.

Excellent summary.
