But if you buy firearms with the intent to sell you have to have an FFL.

So, if you are at all interested in the trade it is safer to have an FFL than to not have one.

I know people who are actively doing everything they can to not get an FFL because they have so much fear of the government, even though they buy and sell dozens of guns every year.

yes, people abuse the personal collection provision to engage in the business of selling firearms without a license. It is hard to enforce unless the individual is especially flagrant, but enforcement could probably be much better.

My point about licensed middle men remains. I cannot get an FFL for the sake of my personal collection and must rely on these middle men. This was a minor gripe and probably off topic, I apologize for going on this tedious tangent.

I just think if you take out the personal transfer exception to background check laws there will be plenty of FFL holders to make the rent seeking issue pretty nominal. If the local gun shop is charging $50 per transfer some guy will start doing it from his garage for $25. Even if he only does one a month he will have more than paid for the FFL. If he can average one a day it is pretty decent side money. If he can average 10 a day from his garage he can look at getting a small shop expect his neighbor to start doing them for $20.

Sure, the fees are nominal. There is plenty of competition in the rent-seeking market. This isn't a major flaw, but still bugs me a bit. Not a dealbreaker by any means.

Would love to see the post office do these for $10 and put all these losers out of business, but that's just me.

I don't know that we want to promote folks walking into the post office with guns, but yeah, I see your point.

Do you have link ? Can't find anything. 28 dead is serious even for American standards.
They were killed by fire (arson) not gunshots. This is in spite of the arsonists being armed.

It was not a mass shooting. It was a mass arson murder.
