If I were to be charitable, I might think that what he means is that they don't just know the name (which I understand was published) but also have more extensive personal info.

Well, sure, that's what he means, but *of course* they have more extensive personal info. We do have intelligence services. I'm pretty sure we know something about all of the upper echelon of IS.

The only thing that worries me is this: if we didn't know anything about the new head, Trump's response would be to publicly claim we know all about him. The main consolation is that if we knew stuff, Trump's response would also be to publicly claim we know all about him.

Don't forget though... Trump is the master of forgetting people he already knows about.

David Duke (criticized him a decade ago, claimed he knew nothing about him in 2016), Parnas/Fruman (seen multiple times with Trump, claimed he didn't know them after their arrest).

Saying that he "knows the ISIS leader" doesn't really mean that much if he can forget people that easily.

Seriously, we have moved to a new, dangerous place and we have to do everything to drag us back into respect for the law and the Constitution. Good luck, we're gonna need it.

Hey, that makes sense. We commonly talk about crack whores and publicity whores but not crack prostitutes and publicity prostitutes.

Yes, the article is very concerning. We really are at a dangerous juncture.

The average Trump supporter will read the above and think, so what? As Brian Klass wrote about, Americans were polled along the lines of, "Do you think American society has become so bad that we need to consider just destroying it and starting over?" About 40% answered yes.

The article also touches on an issue we have been discussing in the 'GOP Fasicism' thread. Trump losing the 2020 election but attempting to remain in office by de-legitimizing the result.

Even worse: What if Trump refuses to acknowledge defeat by a Democratic opponent in 2020? What would happen in that case? Might the president’s supporters resort to violence? Might broad segments of the GOP simply refuse to recognize an elected Democratic executive as well?
