I have to agree with Joe here. Allowing unfettered self definition of whatever one is become another thing by the word alone is silly. It dilutes meanings and gone too far, hurts society.

Society isn't something that can be hurt. It is not an organism.

I don't think anyone is going to argue against height-restricted classes in bodybuilding or weight-restricted classes in wrestling or age-restricted classes in distance running.

Why not? Sex based classes have already been abolished in sports, so why shouldn't all the other classes be fair game?

I think I will identity as a 10 year old so I can clean up all the medals for the egg and spoon race.

Actually, I'm glad I learned about this word as it could be potentially useful to me in my work.

See, I work in translation, specifically Japanese to English, and there's an issue that often comes up when translating Japanese names:

How to translate "Suzuki-san" for example, if you don't know Suzuki-san's gender. Because the "-san" honorific is actually gender neutral, so neither "Mr. Suzuki" nor "Ms. Suzuki" is correct unless you know, and it isn't always evident from the context.

So, maybe "Mx. Suzuki" is a possibility, although Japanese clients tend to be on the conservative side and usually just default to male forms in English in such cases.

If I identify as disabled can I compete in the Special Olympics or Paralympics?

I don't see any evidence there that McKinnon is anything other than a woman.
You're getting wrapped up in metaphysics of language over "man" and "woman." The question remains whether you think it is fair for people who have undergone the virilizing effects of endogenous testosterone to compete in leagues set apart for those who have not.

He was born in a body which obviously went down the male (impregnator) pathway during development. That makes him male. He went through male puberty with testosterone as the driving hormonal influence. That makes him a man.

Human beings, like all mammals, cannot change sex. Words have meanings, and we don't change these just because a bunch of woke activists get their knickers in a twist.

Are you working with a definition of "woman" other than "adult human female"? If not, then you're blind. If so, then... why?

I suspect it's the latter, and that the answer is "No particular reason."

Here's another good one.

Meanwhile the speaker at a women's rights meeting in Toronto last night had to be escorted out the back door of the venue by ten policemen fending off a screaming mob of trans rights activists bellowing, paradoxically, "no hate!"

The latter is a question I'm too disinterested in to bother forming an opinion on. I only care about the former.
