It’s been 34 days since Nancy Pelosi unilaterally declared her impeachment inquiry.
Today’s backtracking is an admission that this process has been botched from the start.

Don't forget the "great health care, at a tiny fraction of the cost", "insurance for everybody" that was going to be so "very easy" to get when Trump became president. The plan they have is all ready to go...after the 2020 election. So vote for Trump and it'll happen, coal miners!

Looks like I'm not the only one who has little sympathy for the coal miners.

Seriously... the industry has been in decline for years. It was obvious that Trump was a con artist who was making false claims, both about health care and saving the coal industry. On the other hand, Democrats supported policies that would both diversify the economy in coal mining areas, and transition to other forms of energy production. Yet workers in coal mining areas strongly supported Trump. They helped make him president, and now they are suffering (perhaps more than others.)

They deserved it.

I will save my sympathy for the minorities Trump is harming with his policies, and for women who are seeing their reproductive rights threatened.

Given the fact that Trump tends to 'forget' people, and get their names wrong, him claiming he 'never heard' of them is irrelevant.

Recall his "I don't know David Duke" in the 2016 election, despite the fact we have him on tape from years before talking about him.

Or how he claimed he didn't know Papadopoulos, even though he had previously praised him as an 'excellent guy'.

I agree. They voted against their own best interests when they voted in Trump. They were largely in denial about the future of the coal industry. They remind me of wagon wheel makers who refused to accept the rise of the automobile meant the end of their previously secure profession. At least Hillary Clinton wanted programs to help retrain coal miners for jobs that had some future. People's ability to behave like the proverbial 'head in sand ostrich' never ceases to amaze me.

I just knew they'd go there. First refuse to cooperate with the 'illegitimate' process because no formal vote was taken. Then say the decision to formalize matters now *roves* the process was illegitimate.

The assassination of Bagdadi is not a covert action as defined above. If you imagine that it is a covert action as defined above because it was intended to not be acknowledged or publicized during the operation itself, then there would have to be some other definition of a covert action that was intended to never be acknowledged or publicized - schmovert action,, let's call it - and where is that in the US code? Failing discovering that, that means that covert action does not include operations that are acknowledged or publicized after the operation is completed.

Why does Trump seem so convinced that the recipient of a threat is the sole arbiter of whether or not a threat was made? Why should anyone care if the Ukrainian president can be persuaded to say that there was no threat when it's there in black and white?

Trump is devolving more and more; he's living in his alternate universe more and more. How many ways can this one tweet demonstrate this?

Where's the whistleblower? Same place s/he's always been: protected by the whistleblower law.S/he has already provided all the evidence s/he can. What is s/he supposed to do now, Trump? Go on a late night show tour? Hold conferences?

Not a Trump tweet. Perhaps a collection of his rantings in the office while he watched F&F or Ingraham, tidied up for swearing and basic re-coherence.
 
I've always found it odd that Trump keeps referring to the call as "perfect" but I think I've finally figured out why he uses that word: He thinks it was a "perfect" shakedown performance -- perfectly deniable because he managed to avoid saying on the call that he had already ordered a hold on the military aid. In his invincible ignorance, he refuses to understand that simply asking Ukraine to help him get re-elected was a crime and flagrant abuse of power in itself, regardless, and he is simply too stupid to realize that not mentioning the hold on the call doesn't make it irrelevant. Trump knew about it when he asked for a "favor" and if Zelensky didn't already know it, he soon would. All the other testimony moves the matter well beyond reasonable doubt, but I'll say again, if Trump wants to face his most damaging accuser at trial, someone will need to hold up a mirror.
