I would really like to see the EU do something like offer a twenty year extension...
 
So, basically, Boris has done what he has stated he would rather died in the last ditch then do:Asked for an EU extension.
it is to make one laugh.
Can't see him survivng long term after this. A lot of people in his won party much be wriing him off as a loser.
 
The way he wrote it once again shows what a manchild he really is.

'My parents made me write an apology because I broke your son's toys, but I still think it was his fault! So there!'

How does someone so immature and so incapable of actually looking at reality become a world leader?
 
I think that by not signing the letter and sending a covering letter, Johnson has done enough to obey the Benn Act

which does not mention the letter has to be signed, it just needs to be sent. The law states;

"The Prime Minister must seek to obtain from the European Council an extension of the period under Article 50(3) of the Treaty on European Union ending at 11.00pm on 31 October 2019 by sending to the President of the European Council a letter in the form set out in the Schedule to this Act requesting an extension of that period to 11.00pm on 31 January 2020..."

Johnson is clearly making the point that he thinks this is a bad idea and he wants the EU to reject the extension request.

But no see he didn't really because he didn't sign the letter so no one can say he sent it!

Given the current world leaders I am astonished that Johnson has managed to beat them all in regards to being childish. He had some stiff competition, so one up for us Brits!

They have loads of money and a sense of entitlement.
 
Also it was a photocopy, the actual letter stayed at number ten.

Presumably on around the 31st the EU will grant a short extension to the UK that Johnson didn't request even though the EU is not able to grant unrequested extensions.

Which is not a win for Boris because it isn't what he and his backers want, if they did they would have gone ahead with the vote yesterday and probably won, hell if leaver MPs would actually vote to leave we would have been out of the EU already.

The letter is a means of notification requesting an extension. The Benn Act has been complied with and there is now a request for an extension until the 31st Jan 2020. Just because it was unsigned and a photocopy does not mean the request has not been sent. The not signing and sending a photocopy is Johnson's childish way of showing he does not want the extension. He has made that clear with his other letter.

If Labour is serious about backing a 2nd referendum I suspect that may sway the EU leaders to grant an extension.

Your argument is that Johnson wants his deal to fail and if it passes he loses.

Yeah, not really. But if that's what you believe sure.

I think he is breaking the law personally.

The Act requires him to seek an extension. By doing it as he has done it he is clearly not looking to seek an extension, but rather simply looking to thwart the intent of the Act while still following the letter of it.

I believe the courts already indicated that sending a second letter would be contrary to the law.

The signature is possibly a bit of a red herring. If an unsigned letter carries the same legal weight as a signed one then he has probably complied with the law in that respect although again one could argue that by not signing it he was demonstrating that he was not genuinely seeking an extension.

It's just an incredibly childish Trump-esque response but not one that should be surprising.

It's weird that its been reported that there wasn't a vote yesterday because Hansard shows that the amended legislation was passed.

Of course the WAB still needs to be presented and passed, but that wasn't what yesterday was going to be about anyway AFAIK
