"I just want to thank and congratulate President Erdogan," Trump says. He calls Erdogan a "hell of a leader," a "tough man" and a "strong man."

Trump says Erdogan will indeed be coming to the White House: "He did a terrific thing. He's a leader." (Trump appears to be referring to the decision to agree to this deal.)

There should probably be a Syria/Kurds/Turkey thread. I don't think I've got time today, but I might start one tomorrow.

Eh. It may be more transparent, but it seems like pretty small potatoes. Hard to get a good comparison, though. Most professional politicians seems to be much less transparent about this kind of thing.

A blatant violation of the emoluments clause and withholding military aid to a nation desperately needing it in exchange for political gain is "pretty small potatoes"?

How does it compare to a burglary to gain information from your political opponent? Is that a mustard seed? After all, no one could really be hurt from that, whereas Ukraine could be unprepared for further military action by a hostile power.

Of course it's small potatoes. It's Republicans doing it.

Yeah... er... but, eh... that was Nixon, man!

A replay of the "The volume of evidence against him shows how fundamentally honest President Trump is" argument ?

The facts are clear:
it is small potatoes to kill someone in broad daylight, since we can safely assume that everyone has killed someone in secret.

Mattis mocks Trump at a Gala dinner

Video in link

Some of the comments include, Trump also said Meryl Streep was 'over rated' so that must make him the Meryl Streep of generals and at least between them they had some victories.
Also trumps words don't bother him. He earned his spurs on the battlefield and Trump earned his from a doctor.
Probably the only person in the military Trump doesn't think over rated is Colonel Sanders.

Oh, BURN!

ETA: The whole thing is on CNN's YouTube channel. Mattis refers to Donald Trump only by name, not once does he refer to him as "President".

Why does everyone working for this administration only grow back their balls after leaving?
You are not much of an Adult in the Room if you have to wait until you are out of the room to act like one.

Classic. People are going to be repeating that zinger for a long time. Donnie winning "his spurs" from his doctor isn't bad either. When people start laughing at demagogues their shelf life becomes very limited.

And that's exactly why dictators want to silence their critics. They don't want to ever been seen as not totally serious.
