The Trump Presidency: Part 17

Now that we have found out that @CNN is a virtual fraud, rumor has it that Jeff Zucker will be resigining momentarily?

I'm assuming he's talking about the new Project Veritas video?

For anyone that wants to see it:

I didn't think it was all that shocking, but it did show a series of CNN individuals **** talking Bernie, and others.

Even with that most of what I saw was just a TV station talking about political candidates. I can't imagine it would be any different than an average day at Fox.

They do it because Frank Luntz held a focus group and people thought the name was more negative than Democratic Party. They repeated the talking point deliberately until reporters and others began using it regularly.

It goes back to around 1940's.

The president isn't alone in his adjectival aversion to "Democratic" when it comes to the party. The provenance of the sneering label "Democrat Party" stretches back to the Harding administration. William Safire traced an early usage to Harold Stassen, who was managing Wendell Willkie's 1940 campaign against Franklin D. Roosevelt. A party run by political bosses, Stassen told Safire for a 1984 column, "should not be called a 'Democratic Party.' It should be called the 'Democrat party.' "

Democrat Party was used, pardon the phrase, liberally by Wisconsin Sen. Joseph McCarthy. According to the Columbia Guide to Standard American English, " Democrat as an adjective is still sometimes used by some twentieth-century Republicans as a campaign tool but was used with particular virulence" by McCarthy, "who sought by repeatedly calling it the Democrat party to deny it any possible benefit of the suggestion that it might also be democratic." The word also achieved a prominent run with Bob Dole's especially ugly reference to "Democrat wars" during the 1976 vice presidential debate.

But Democrat-as-epithet has seen its fullest flowering -- on talk radio, among congressional leaders and, more than with any of his predecessors, from the president himself -- during the recent Republican heyday. As Hendrik Hertzberg pointed out in the New Yorker in August, the conservative Web site NewsMax.com takes pains to scrub Associated Press copy "to de-'ic' references" to the party.

It went into overdrive after Luntz's recommendation, tho.

In the US, momentarily also means "soon". Not my fault, but it does.

From (British) writer Terry Pratchett's Guards! Guards!:

"I shall deal with the matter momentarily," the Patrician said. It was a good word. It always made people hesitate. They were never quite sure whether he meant he'd deal with it now, or just deal with it briefly. And no-one ever dared ask.

Just out: MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME IS AT THE HIGHEST POINT EVER, EVER, EVER! How about saying it this way, IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY! Also, MORE PEOPLE WORKING TODAY IN THE USA THAN AT ANY TIME IN HISTORY! Tough numbers for the Radical Left Democrats to beat! Impeach the Pres.

It's been discussed before, but...

No way Trump uses the word that way.
Given that there is no appropriate response to that particular tweet apart from attempting humor, I made the attempt. Just momentarily, though, as I'm sure the next thing he tweets will truly disgust me. ;)

Hunter Biden was really bad on @GMA. Now Sleepy Joe has real problems! Reminds me of Crooked Hillary and her 33,000 deleted Emails, not recoverable!

"It doesn't speak for the FULL HOUSE because the FULL HOUSE hasn't spoken. The Democrat Party is pushing this Impeachment. This is a Democrat Party Impeachment, as I have been saying, a silent COUP effort."
"The Democrat Party has hijacked the House of Representatives..."
@MarkLevinShow

So does Silent Coup refer to the book of the same name? If so then this tweet is saying that President Trump is as innocent as President Nixon.

Does silent coup refer to working stealthily behind the scenes to overthrow the president? Because the stuff up to this point seems rather non-silent.

Does silent coup mean something else?

Maybe not...

I wish he'd stick with his TV talk. While it remains insane that a President of the United States can spend so much watching the Trump Box, at least it doesn't cause me anything like disgust.

I think he would have to understand the meaning of "coup" first. A quick search reveals that it is "a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government." Impeachment proceedings - even if only one party is pushing them - are not sudden, violent, or illegal. Hell, they're not even a seizure of power.

Remember, you have to lower the bar when it comes to Trump's comprehension of the meaning of words.

Personally, I'm impressed that he doesn't think a coup is something with chickens in it.

In dollars maybe. Not real income.

I'd be surprised if Fox wasn't worse, when it comes to skew and opinion.

Also, if it's Project Veritas, it's simply not worth watching, I say, at this point.

In other news...

Retired general tells Fox News: 'What's happened is that we’ve already lost our reputation'

Everything Trump touches dies.

Ohio's planned voter purge targeted tens of thousands of legitimate, active voters

40,000 legitimate, active voters were scheduled to be illegally purged - out of a total of about 235,000. 20,000 of those active voters were from one heavily Democratic county. It's good that that was caught, but... that's more than 1/6 of the purge done in "error" and very heavily and blatantly skewed towards Democrats being disenfranchised. I'd say that there definitely should be a serious investigation of what, exactly, went wrong to lead to that BS. It's possible that it was negligence, but... there just happens to be a much larger pattern of this kind of thing happening somewhat intentionally, pretty much always by Republican hands.

From that source:
He discovered thousands of people who shouldn’t be purged just by running the state’s purge spreadsheet against his own database of state voter data. “It’s a simple query if you have a database management system,” he told The New York Times. “A guy at his dining room table can figure this stuff out. It’s not rocket science.” And yet somehow the Ohio secretary of state’s office and county election officials had failed to do so.
Oh, I'm betting pounds to peanuts they did, but with different search criteria. ;)

From Fiona Hill's testimony to Congress

'Mr. Bolton got into a tense exchange on July 10 with Gordon D. Sondland, the Trump donor turned ambassador to the European Union, who was working with Rudolph W. Giuliani, the president’s personal lawyer, to press Ukraine to investigate Democrats.'

'Bolton told her to notify the chief lawyer for the NSC about a rogue effort by Mr. Sondland, Mr. Giuliani and Mick Mulvaney, the acting White House chief of staff'

"I am not part of whatever drug deal Sondland and Mulvaney are cooking up,” said Bolton.

"Giuliani’s a hand grenade who’s going to blow everybody up," Ms. Hill quoted Mr. Bolton as saying during an earlier conversation.

Holy Shmoly! Now we know why Bolton got the **** outta there!!
