For a long time it's been clear that Trump spends his time...

(1) watching TV
(2) playing golf
(3) playing out infantile grudges
(4) attending political rallies
(5) promulgating asinine conspiracy theories
(6) working on re-election via secretive, sleazy backroom maneuvering
(7) attending to his hair
(8) demonizing people of color

I have a high degree of confidence that each of these activities have consumed more of his time than what most of us would consider "real" work.

And now we learn that he's tasked the senior members of his team -- most notably Barr and Pompeo -- with items #5 and #6.

This is a freak show on steroids.

I said years back that I hoped a lot of the current crop of Democratic nominees were acting merely as stalking horses for the GOP slander machine. Spend a few years in the spotlight, take all the hits you know they'll be dishing out, and then drop out of the race, so that a candidate who hasn't been tarred and feathered can step up to be the actual candidate.

I really hope this is what Biden is doing, because if it is, he's doing a hell of a job of it. The GOP will be focused on him throughout the impeachment process, and probably even after, giving months of cover for the other candidates.

This is a breaking story. dudalb was asked did he have a source? I hilited the part in yellow and right-clicked. Among other sources I immediately found the story (quoted in part below) from The Independent, a British news source.

William Barr, the US attorney general, held private meetings overseas with foreign intelligence officials seeking their help in a Justice Department inquiry that Donald Trump hopes will discredit US intelligence agencies' examination of possible connections between Russia and members of his presidential campaign during the 2016 election, according to people familiar with the matter.

Current and former intelligence and law enforcement officials expressed frustration and alarm on Monday that the head of the Justice Department was taking such a direct role in re-examining what they view as conspiracy theories and baseless allegations of misconduct. Link

Or more likely he is having tax-payer paid vacations to UK and Italy in the summertime. Barr is no fool. All he has to do is handshake a few locals and email back to Barking-Mad Donny that there is "Progress!" Then it's off to another round of free dinner and drinks in all the beautiful places, what a nice vacation away from Miller and Rudy for a week anyway. If Donny pushes him later, he is more than capable of making up some Trump-friendly "official reports" that Donny will gleefully swallow hook-line-and-sinker (and will tweet about globally the next time he is on the can).

Why is Trump trying to undermine the credibility of the Mueller report that he says exonerates him? Why is he still trying to find the DNC server? Because if he can blame the hacking on someone other than the Russians, then he can lift the sanctions that were imposed because of that.

That's one benefit. Arguably the main benefit is proving that he's a stable genius by virtue of winning 2016 "by a landslide" -- unassisted.

The exact Constitutitional wording is "The President, Vice President, and all Civil Officers of the United States" can be impeached, but as you can imagine there's been a fair amount of legal debate over what "Civil Officers" means.

Congress pretty much decided that "Civil Officers" didn't apply to Congress as most interpretations of the "Civil Officer" wording tend to lean toward the "Civil Officers mean members of the Executive Branch" intepretation. There was one impeached Congressman (sorta they impeached him and expulled him on the same day, leaving the impeachment in a state of eternal limbo basically) but that was in 1797.

But, in direct contradiction, it has been used (the most in fact) against Federal Judges.

So.... maybe. Probably. There's still a lot of untested waters when it comes to Impeachment in the US.

Basically it's the same thing as defining "high crimes and misdemeanors." If Congress decides you are a "Civil Officer" and can be impeached, you can be impeached.
